THE CULTURAL MANIFESTATIONS OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD

MARCH 30, 2007

I warmly thank the Foundation Parma Capitale della Musica for giving the Aga Khan Trust for Culture the opportunity to share with you, in this great city and this great country of unique cultural wealth

A SMALL SAMPLE OF THE CULTURAL ASSETS OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD, AND TO TRY TO BUILD

NEW FORCES OF PRIDE AND RESPECT FOR THE CULTURAL MANIFESTATIONS OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD AT A GLOBAL LEVEL

and thereby contributing to the reduction of the damage that has been made in recent times by questionable decisions in the field of international politics.

at the State Banquet

Nairobi 13 August 2007

As I observe this Jubilee year, I plan to use this occasion to do TWO THINGS:

KENYA HAS PLAYED A ROLE IN PAST JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS OF THE ISMAILI IMAMAT—

  1. DURING MY LATE GRANDFATHER’S TIME[1]

  2. AND MY OWN[2].

I SAID A MOMENT AGO THAT I HAD :

  • TWO OBJECTIVES AS I MARK THIS JUBILEE YEAR—

  • THE SECOND ONE WAS TO PUT INTO HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

  • SOME OF MY EXPERIENCES OVER THIS HALF CENTURY.

  1. THE DESIRE FOR UNITY

  2. AND THE URGE TO DIVERSIFY

  3. MAY SEEM LIKE CONTRADICTORY FORCES

  4.  - BUT THE BEAUTY AND POWER OF A PARTNERSHIP

  5. APPROACH IS THAT

  6. IT RESPECTS THE PROPER ROLE OF EACH IMPULSE

  7. AND WORKS OUT WAYS IN WHICH

  8. BOTH CAN BE RESPECTED.

Remarks by His Highness the Aga Khan at the "Spirit and Life" Exhibition, London, UK

12 July 2007

If I could express one hope for all of you, as you leave this place today, it is that you will appreciate even more deeply HOW MUCH CULTURE MATTERS IN MUSLIM SOCIETIES, AND HOW DEEPLY CULTURE IS ENTWINED FOR MUSLIMS WITH MATTERS OF FAITH. THIS IS WHY WE CALL THIS EXHIBITION: 'SPIRIT AND LIFE'

At a time when the forces of exclusion, alienation, and separation can often seem so threatening in our world, I AM CONVINCED THAT OUR ABILITY TO HONOR AUTHENTIC SYMBOLS OF PRIDE AND IDENTITY - AND TO SHARE THEIR BEAUTY AND THEIR POWER WITH ONE ANOTHER - CAN BE A TREMENDOUS FORCE FOR GOOD. I hope you will feel the same way - let me thank you, most sincerely, once again, FOR SHARING WITH US IN THIS IMPORTANT MOMENT.

Thank you.

The Prince of Wales

A speech by HRH The Prince of Wales at the opening of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture’s the ‘Spirit & Life’ Exhibition at the Ismaili Centre

12th July 2007

Your Highness, Ladies and Gentlemen. I cannot tell you what a pleasure it is for my wife and I to join you this afternoon in celebrating THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS HIGHNESS THE AGA KHAN’S SUCCESSION TO THE IMAMAT.

It is, if I may say so, London’s great good fortune that His Highness has chosen to open HIS GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS WITH THE ‘SPIRIT AND LIFE’ EXHIBITION which my wife and I have just seen – we had to drag ourselves away from it! I understand that this is the first time these masterpieces of Islamic art have been seen in London. They are of quite exceptional historical importance and beauty. But, perhaps still more importantly, they also convey the clearest possible message about the close ties between the Abrahamic Faiths. For example, the magnificent Eleventh Century Canon of Medicine, which originated in Iran, was equally indispensable to Western scholars for the better part of five hundred years.

And it was fascinating when I was recently at the British Library to see there in fact another fascinating exhibition called ‘Sacred’, which another very dramatic demonstration of the close way in which these faiths have been so close for so long.

So much attention is paid to the outward differences between Faiths. Almost reflexively, this becomes translated into seemingly impenetrable divisions between people; people who – if they did but know it – are in fact linked by much and separated by rather little. How refreshing it is, then, to be reminded by this marvellous exhibition of the spirituality from which our Faiths draw their real strength, and of the heritage and traditions which we share.

Chapter 54. Jewish Sects.

" For when the rising of Christ was at hand for the abolition of sacrifices, and for the bestowal of the grace of baptism, the enemy, understanding from the predictions that the time was at hand, wrought various schisms among the people, that, if haply it might be possible to abolish the former sin, the latter fault might be incorrigible. The first schism, therefore, was that of those who were called Sadducees, which took their rise almost in the time of John. ....  The scribes also, and Pharisees, are led away into another schism; but these, being baptized by John, and holding the word of truth received from the tradition of Moses as the key of the kingdom of heaven, have hid it from the hearing of the people. Luke 11:52 Yea, some even of the disciples of John, who seemed to be great ones, have separated themselves from the people, and proclaimed their own master as the Christ.

he to whom John is forerunner -

that is redundant

  1. The most immediately striking feature of Barnabas' portrayal of Jesus is that, throughout,

  2. the author is intent on conflating Jesus with the canonical portraits of John the Baptist. ....

  3. This means that John the Baptist - the canonical forerunner of Jesus the Messiah -

  4. is effectively redundant and does not play a named role in the narrative.

  5. On the other hand, traditions, motifs, words, attitudes and other narrative components given to John in the canonical accounts;

  6.  are here appropriated by Barnabas' Jesus so that it is really the canonical Messianic Jesus -

  7. he to whom John is forerunner -

  8. that is redundant.

In the past, and to a great extent still today, it has been considered only in the context of Muslim-Christian polemic. It is important to remove it from that arena and start a serious assessment of its contents in the broader context of Christian apocrypha.

undoubtedly, the said omission and alterations in the new testament per se, had changed the whole context and connotation of god's intended purpose for the revelation and, of the revelation itself.

as a result, the said prophecies could not have been fulfilled in either john, the baptist and/or jesus the christ, as demonstrated amply in the new testament, regardless.

Isa 40:3 -

The voice of him that crieth - Lowth and Noyes render this, ‘A voice crieth,’ and annex the phrase ‘in the wilderness’ to the latter part of the sentence:

A voice crieth, ‘In the wilderness prepare ye the way of Yahweh.’

The Hebrew (קורא קול  qôl qôrē')  will bear this construction, though the Vulgate and the Septuagint render it as in our common version.

The Hebrew is interesting. First of all, it is laid out more like poetry than prose (at least it is in the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia and every other version I've seen).

BATTLE FOR THE BIBLE

How, in a Europe dominated by the Roman Catholic Church, did the Reformation emerge that would question the very foundations of the Church?

By Ron Fraser

Pope Benedict XVI is using his first visit to a country outside the European continent to send a powerful evangelizing message to Latin America.

Not only that. Affronted by the European Union’s inability to agree to have the religion of Rome embedded in the EU constitution, the pope simply declared it apostate.

Brazil's Indians offended by Pope comments

By Raymond Colitt Mon May 14, 3:15 PM ET

Pope John Paul spoke in 1992 of mistakes in the evangelization of native peoples of the Americas

Pope Benedict not only upset many Indians but also Catholic priests who have joined their struggle, said Sandro Tuxa, who heads the movement of northeastern tribes.

"We repudiate the Pope's comments," Tuxa said. "To say the cultural decimation of our people represents a purification is offensive, and frankly, frightening.

"I think (the Pope) has been poorly advised."

Even the
Catholic Church's own Indian advocacy group in Brazil, known as Cimi, distanced itself from the Pope.

The same was in the beginning with ELOHIYM[GODS -PLURAL]

the above cited verses clearly change the inexplicable pauline concept of the so-called trinity, because the word is simply EL [GOD - SINGULAR] and not ELOHIYM [GODS -PLURAL], a distinction which is clearly lost in the new testament as is.

the QUR'AN'S concern for salvation of the soul

Celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of The Institute of Ismaili Studies
October 2003

On 19th October, 2003, His Highness the Aga Khan was in London to attend events marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of The Institute of Ismaili Studies. As part of those events, he delivered the opening address at a conference exploring the interfaces between the QUR'AN and the Arts, as well as an address to students, alumni, staff, faculty and friends of the IIS at an afternoon graduation ceremony.

In his opening address at the international colloquium entitled ‘Word of God, Art of Man: The QUR'AN and its Creative Expressions,’ the Aga Khan underlined the QUR'AN'S concern for salvation of the soul, but commensurately also with the ethical imperatives which sustain an equitable social order.’ ‘The Qur’an’s is an inclusive vision of society that gives primacy to nobility of conduct,’ he reminded his audience.

Ka'bah As A Place Of Worship In The History

The interpretation of the valley of Baca as a "the valley of weeping" makes sense because of the distress which Hagar(P) underwent when she was left with Ishmael(P) in the barren desert with no means of living.

The two interpretations of Baca, viz., "lack of stream" and "the valley of weeping" appears to fit in the context of pilgrimage to Bakkah, the older name of Makkah where the Ka'bah is situated. Ka'bah has been a place of reverence by all Arabians before the Christian era as we have seen earlier.

  • and of the very conception of divine revelation."

Text of pope's remarks to Muslim leaders at Castel Gandolfo

Here is the Vatican's English-language text of Pope Benedict XVI's remarks in French to Vatican and Muslim leaders at the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo Sept. 25.

I am pleased to welcome you to this gathering that I wanted to arrange in order to strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the Holy See and Muslim communities throughout the world. ....

The circumstances which have given rise to our gathering are well known. I have already had occasion to dwell upon them in the course of the past week. In this particular context,

I should like to reiterate today all the esteem and the profound respect that I have for Muslim believers, calling to mind the words of the Second Vatican Council which for the Catholic Church are the Magna Carta of Muslim-Christian dialogue:
"The church looks upon Muslims with respect. They worship the ONE GOD LIVING and subsistent, merciful and almighty, creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to humanity and to whose decrees, even the hidden ones, they seek to submit themselves wholeheartedly, just as Abraham, to whom the Islamic faith readily relates itself, submitted to God" ("Nostra Aetate," 3).

Dear friends, I pray with my whole heart that the merciful God will guide our steps along the paths of an ever more authentic mutual understanding. At this time when for Muslims the spiritual journey of the month of Ramadan is beginning, I address to all of them my cordial good wishes, praying that the Almighty may grant them serene and peaceful lives. May the God of peace fill you with the abundance of his blessings, together with the communities that you represent.

CHAPTER ONE

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH’S TEACHING WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL

Within this context of the Abrahamic tradition, Massignon urged Christians to recognise the Qur’an as an authentic religious mystical source, since, according to him, the Qur’an is in line with the Old and New Testament confirming their truth. The Qur’anic confirmation of the virgin birth of Jesus and veneration of Jesus and his mother Mary led Massignon to reach this conclusion. What attracted Massignon in the Qur’an was its assertion that there is grace in human history and that  Mary and Jesus are signs of God. In this it takes no advantage for itself.

According to Massignon, the Qur’an, as a revelation transmitted to Muhammad by the angel, operates as a mediator between God and human beings.[27]

Concerning the Prophet Muhammad, Massignon dismissed the belief that Muhammad was the ‘anti-Christ’ as certain sections of the Church had presented him in the past.[28] He emphasised the sincerity of Muhammad, noting the following points as proofs. In Mecca, he received revelation to preach. He behaved like a prophet and tried to explore the unity [Oneness] of God. In Medina, he established such foundations as ritual prayer. He rejected the Jewish claims concerning Jesus by confirming his virgin birth. He saved Ishmael from being excluded from the divine promise. Although Massignon acknowledged that Muhammad was a true and sincere prophet, he considered his role in this prophethood to be that of a prophete negatif, in the sense that he denies God being more than what he affirms him to be.[29] Thus, Massignon contributed to the Copernican shift in the Christian attitude towards Islam by insisting on the need to move “from mission to dialogue” in Christian theology. [30] In this sense, he meant that "instead of  viewing Islam from outside, and 'attacking it tooth and nail', one must situate oneself, 'by a Copernican revolution, at the very centre of Islam, there where that spark of truth dwells from which all the rest is invisibly and mysteriously sustained'".[31]

Catholic Church Settles Los Angeles Sex Abuse Cases for $660 Million

Sunday, July 15, 2007

LOS ANGELES —  The nation's largest Catholic archdiocese has settled its abuse cases for $660 million, by far the largest payout in the church's sexual abuse scandal, The Associated Press has learned.

The settlements push the total amount paid out by the U.S. church since 1950 to more than $2 billion, with about a quarter of that coming from the Los Angeles archdiocese.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger

A secret document which sets out a procedure for dealing with child sex abuse scandals within the Catholic Church is examined by Panorama.

Crimen Sollicitationis was enforced for 20 years by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger before he became the Pope.

This document was reissued in 2001 by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and sent to all bishops. Yet rather than ordering more openness and cooperation with the authorities as demanded by both law enforcers and the victims, he reiterated its policies and ensured that the Code of Silence be applied to all cases of child abuse involving a priest. Cardinal Ratzinger also instructed that all cases should now be referred to his office directly and that he would maintain 'exclusive competence' over the handling of allegations. This is the Catholic Church's policy to this day and Cardinal Ratzinger is now Pope Benedict XVI.

It instructs bishops on how to deal with allegations of child abuse against priests and has been seen by few outsiders.

Critics say the document has been used to evade prosecution for sex crimes.

Crimen Sollicitationis was written in 1962 in Latin and given to Catholic bishops worldwide who are ordered to keep it locked away in the church safe.

CATHOLIC CHURCH

BENEDICTUS PP. XVI

I. THE FULLNESS AND DEFINITIVENESS
OF THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST

  1. “No one has ever seen God; God the ONLY Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has revealed him” (Jn 1:18);

  2. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the ONLY Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father.

  3. Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

  4. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried

  5. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures;

rest assured, the above cited roman catholic version of the events and mind boggling beliefs put forth by the vatican, CONTRADICT THE VERY ESSENCE of the new testament a - z.

Chapter Two: I Believe in Jesus Christ, the Only Son of God
   "
And In Jesus Christ, His Only Son, Our Lord"
   "
Jesus Christ Was Conceived by the Power of the Holy Spirit, and Was Born of the Virgin Mary"
"Jesus Christ Suffered Under Pontius Pilate, Was Crucified,
Died, and Was Buried"

"Jesus Christ Descended into Hell; On the Third Day He Rose Again from the Dead"
"Jesus Ascended into Heaven and Is Seated at the Right Hand of God the Father Almighty"
"From Thence He Shall Come to Judge the Living and the Dead"

the 'WORD' FORSAKEN
for the SATAN's false testimony

THE UNCLEAN SPIRITS

The apostles had a similar confirmation also from THE UNCLEAN SPIRITS who cried out against Jesus: "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God" (Mk 1:24). "What have you to do with me...Son of the Most High God?" (Mk 5:7). vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/audiences/alpha/data/aud19870513en.

the vatican's  insurmountable desperation speaks for itself.

so much so that the vatican had to rely on the satanic testimonies [THE UNCLEAN SPIRITS] for its foundation, faith and beliefs.

compare

spirit of an unclean devil

(Luke 4:33 KJV)  And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

(Luke 4:34 KJV)  Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

(Luke 4:2 KJV)  Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

(Luke 4:3 KJV)  And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

(Luke 4:4 KJV)  And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

this word of god was forsaken by the very proponents of the above and instead, they RELIED on the satanic testimonies [THE UNCLEAN SPIRITS] to build the foundations of  their roman catholic church, faith and beliefs..

however, the vatican COULD NEVER prove
from the 4-four canonical gospels per se
and only in the words of god,
that jesus christ was the
'only begotten son' of god, the father.

NEVER! see the details below.

Pope: Other denominations not true churches

Benedict issues statement asserting that Jesus established ‘only one church’

MSNBC News Services

Updated: 7:52 a.m. MT July 10, 2007

LORENZAGO DI CADORE, Italy - Pope Benedict XVI has reasserted the universal primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says Orthodox churches were defective and that other Christian denominations were not true churches.

Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi said he had pushed for inclusion of Catholic roots in the document but that the main task ahead for Catholics was to carry on a dialogue with religions like Islam and Judaism.

however, if the mother church admittedly was built on the SATANIC FOUNDATIONS [THE UNCLEAN SPIRITS] itself, AS JUST SEEN THEN WHAT CAN WE SAY?  Pope Benedict XVI  SAID IT ALL.

please review all the evidence cited herein and then draw your own conclusions.

first of, did mary, the mother of jesus believe that her own son was the promised savior of the world?

please quote only her own words if any, from the 4 gospels.

on the other hand, this was a divine proclamation of his limited mission prior to his birth.

and thereafter, jesus also concurred during his own lifetime and mission.

THEREFORE, anything else besides the above precise context and connotation, MUST have been interpolated from some place else and sources foreign to the said annunciation.

And there followed him a certain young man,

and the young men laid hold on him.

(Mark 14:52 Webster)
And he left the linen cloth,
and fled from them naked.

(Mark 14:53 Webster)
And they led Jesus away

PETER, the rock or the stone,
the SATAN AND/OR THE OFFENCE

 1.  (Matthew 16:23 KJV)  But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

 2.  (Mark 8:33 KJV)  But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

 3.  (Matthew 26:75 KJV)  And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

 4.  (Mark 14:72 KJV)  And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

 5.  (Luke 22:34 KJV)  And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

 6.  (Luke 22:61 KJV)  And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

so, jesus had no disciples at the end of his mission, right.
he was FORSAKEN BOTH BY GOD, HIS FATHER and his
disciples one and all.

so, WHO was there to be SAVED IN THE END?

meaning:

  1. jesus could not even save himself.

  2. in the end, that is before his crucifixion;

  3. he had NO ONE to save either ;

  4. because HE WAS FORSAKEN BY ALL;

  5. including god, the father.

Alaha

Arabic اﷲ Allāh

Alaha ( ܐܠܗܐ Alâhâ [eastern], Ālōho [western], אלהא Elaha) means "god" in Aramaic. It is cognate to Northwest Semitic ’ēl and Akkadian ilu. The word is from a Proto-Semitic archaic biliteral ʾ-l meaning "god" (possibly with a wider meaning of "strong"), which was extended to a regular triliteral by the addition of a h (as in Hebrew אלוה Eloah and Arabic اﷲ Allāh).

[edit] New Testament

Alaha (specifically the form אלהי or elâhi; "my God") is transliterated in the Greek New Testament as ελοι (eloi). This is due to Greek phonology only allowing an "h" sound at the beginning of a word.

Allah is an Arabic word means "the God", or "God" with a capital "G".

The Aramaic version of the Gospels, which is said to be the language Jesus Christ (Ppuh) spoke, the Aramaic Gospels uses the root "hl0" (read from right to left) in place of the English word "God" used in the English translation. The pronunciation of "hl0" is "AaLaH" or "Alah"*. Jesus Christ (Ppuh) called God, "AaLaH"*

In Hebrew "God" is "'eloahh"**. The Arabic pronunciation of "'eloahh" is "Allah". Example: The word "servant" in Hebrew is "'ebed", in Arabic, servant is "Abed", or "Abd".

The BLB (Blue Letter Bible) links the Hebrew word "'eloahh" directly to the Arabic word "Allah", in its root and its meaning as "The True God", it even shows the word "'eloahh" in the Arabic alphabets, which is "Allah", for those of you who read Arabic. As a matter of fact, it also shows the word "'eloahh" in the Aramaic alphabets, which is "AaLaH", and it looks almost the same as in the Arabic alphabets.

To see this on the BLB website, search for Hebrew Strong's 0433, or it's Majesty plural 0430. Read under "Hebrew Lexicon". You might need to click on "more" to see all copy.

Christians and Jews who speak the Arabic language also use the word "Allah" to refer to the God they worship. "Allah" is also used in the Arabic versions of the Bible (in the Old and the New Testaments) replacing the word "God" in the English versions.

the above pluralistic meanings are all lost in one for all translation viz.,  GODG2316 θεός theos theh'-os  in the new testament.

Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim

Our spiritual understandings, like those of your Academy, are rooted, of course, in ancient teachings.

In the case of Islam, there are two touchstones which I have long treasured and sought to apply.

These Islamic ideals, of course, have also been emphasized by other great religions. Despite the long history of religious conflict, there is a long counter-history of religious focus on tolerance as a central virtue -- on welcoming the stranger and loving one's neighbour.

“Who is my Neighbor?” -

one of the central Christian narratives asks.

Jesus responds by telling the story of the Good Samaritan -- a foreigner, a representative of the Other,

who reaches out sympathetically, across ethnic and cultural divides, to show mercy to the fallen stranger at the side of the road.

the lucan narrative &

 the episode alluded to above

Luke 10:29 (KJV) But he, willing to justify himself,
said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

30 And Jesus[1]  answering said, A certain [man] went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded [him], and departed, leaving [him] half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked [on him], and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion [on him],
34 And went to [him], and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave [them] to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus[2]  unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

Barnabas with Matthew

MATTHIAS/Matthew/Barsabbas/Barnabas -- it is evident that our extant sources are giving somewhat garbled versions of a common sub-stratum of stories involving this group of names. The two lists, with their Gospels of Matthias and Barnabas grouped together, participate in the same tradition of associations.

  1. The grouping of Matthias and Barnabas reminds us of Matthias and Barsabbas in Acts,

  2. which reminds us of Matthias and Barnabas in the Clementina,

  3. and both of these in turn remind us of Matthew and Barnabas in other sources.

Curiously, in the medieval Gospel of Barnabas we find these associations again.

In the list of disciples found in chapter 14 of the work (in both manuscripts) the supposed author, Barnabas, lists himself as "he who writes with Matthew."14

Disciples are commonly grouped into pairs. In the canonical lists Matthew's pair is Thomas. In the medieval gospel "Barnabas" is paired "with Matthew" and Thomas is omitted.

The very idea that Barnabas is one of the Twelve, as it appears in the medieval work, is reminiscent of the Ebionite claim that Barnabas defeated Matthias for the position left vacant by Judas.15

Is the author of the medieval Barnabas following the New Testament and grouping together two Levites (taking Matthias and Matthew to be interchangeable) or does the grouping of "he who writes with Matthew" point to a stronger participation in the complex of associations between the two names, especially as these two names are connected with the transmission of the primitive "Jewish gospel"?

14 The list of disciples reads: "Their names are: Andrew and Peter his brother, Barnabas, who wrote this with Matthew the publican, who sat at the receipt of custom; John and James, sons of Zebedee; Thaddaeus and Judas; Bartholomew and Philip, James, and Judas Iscariot the traitor."

15 Although, of course, in the Clementina Barnabas still does not meet Jesus in person, as Barnabas does in the medieval gospel.

rest assured, this is a deliberate lie and distortion of material facts and false evidence, which no court of law will accept from R. Blackhirst.

With Clement also - Supposed to be the same who was afterwards bishop of Rome, and who wrote an epistle to the Corinthians, which is still extant.

Clement — bishop of ROME shortly after the death of Peter and Paul. His Epistle from the Church of ROME to the Church of Corinth is extant. It makes no mention of the supremacy of the See of Peter. He was the most eminent of the apostolical fathers. Alford thinks that the Clement here was a Philippian, and not necessarily Clement, bishop of Rome. But Origen [Commentary, Joh_1:29] identifies the Clement here with the bishop of ROME

And how we say that the powers of the devil, and the unclean spirits, sow into the sinner's soul, requires no more words from me, on adducing as a witness the apostolic Barnabas (and he was one of the seventy, [2397] and a fellow-worker of Paul), who speaks in these words: "Before we believed in God, the dwelling-place of our heart was unstable, truly a temple built with hands. For it was full of idolatry, and was a house of demons, through doing what was opposed to God." [2398]

could this [The True Gnostic teachings and mysticism] be the main reason why the gospel of barnabas was rejected outright by the early church?

Gnostics, Gnostic Gospels, & Gnosticism

Besides Marcion, other important Gnostics were Basilides and Valentinus. Some Gnostic documents are the Gospel of Truth, the Letter to Rheginus, Treatise on the Three Natures, Apocalypse of Adam, the Gospel of Matthias, Gospel of Philip, Acts of Peter, and Acts of Thomas. Although the Gnostics were prolific writers, most of their works have been burnt or lost in favor of proto-orthodox writings (and known only through patristic references).
