`Elyon

Main article: Elyon

The name `Elyon (Hebrew: עליון) occurs in combination with El, YHWH or Elohim, and also alone. It appears chiefly in poetic and later Biblical passages. The modern Hebrew adjective "`Elyon" means "supreme" (as in "Supreme Court") or "Most High". El Elyon has been traditionally translated into English as 'God Most High'. The Phoenicians used what appears to be a similar name for God, Έλιον. It is cognate to the Arabic `Aliyy.

MUHAMMAD IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

Haggai 2:7-9

And I will shake all nations, and the Himada of all the nations will come; and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts. Mine is the silver, mine is the gold, says the Lord of hosts, the glory of my last house shall be greater than that of the first one, says the Lord of hosts; and in this place I will give Shalom, says the Lord of Hosts. (Quoted from Reference 4).

The Hebrew words Mahmad, Mahamod, Himada, and Hemed appearing in the Old Testament and the Arabic words Muhammad and Ahmad are all derived from the same root "H, M and D," and refer to the same general meaning. These Hebrew words convey qualities as well as the person depending on the phrase used in the Old Testament. The Hebrew word Shalom and the Arabic word Salam have the same meaning - peace. They are derived from the root alphabets "S, L and M." Islam is also derived from the same root alphabets and means the path of peace.

Was he Solomon, Jesus or Muhammad ?

Muhammad's name appeared in Haggai 2:7 under the hebrew word mahmad (mhmd ) which means praised one (Muhammad is Arabic for praised one). It almost undoubtedly is referring to the Arabic Prophet Muhammad.  Solomon

First of all, the way this word is written is Hebrew is mhmd . That happens to be the EXACT same was Muhammad's name is written in Hebrew. Let's look at the spelling of this word...

It has four characters. Going from right to left they are...
Mahmad

Now, when writing in Hebrew, there is no difference between the word mahmad (Mahmad ) and Muhammad (Muhammad ). The only difference is in the vowels used when pronouncing this word (Mahmad ). Hebrew is an ancient language, and there are no vowels. It is made up of 22 consonants. In ancient times, the reader decided on his own which vowels to add in. It was not until the 8th century that vowels were introduced, in the form of dots and lines. However, this has nothing to do with real Hebrew. The word mahmad (Mahmad ) in ancient times would most likely have been pronounced "mahamad".

According to Ben Yehuda's Hebrew-English Dictionary, Mahmad is correctly pronounced "mahamad" (not mahmad) which is very close to Muhammad.

Ben Yehuda's Hebrew-English Dictionary defines "Mahmad " as "lovely, coveted one, precious one, praised one". The correct way to say "praised one" in Arabic is Muhammad, so this is the same word!

As was stated before, the name Muhammad (Muhammad ) and the word mahmad (Mahmad ) are spelled exactly the same way in Hebrew, and both have the same meaning. The only reason they are pronounced different is because of vowels (dots and lines) introduced in the eigth century.

The Hebrew word for praised one is
Mahamad

The Hebrew word for Muhammad (the Arabic Prophet) is
Muhammad

  • THE SECOND ONE WAS TO PUT INTO HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

  • SOME OF MY EXPERIENCES OVER THIS HALF CENTURY.

  1. THE DESIRE FOR UNITY

anti-islamic sources

Armenian Chronicler of 660 A.D.

To answer that we need to refer to the earliest connected account of the career of the prophet, that given in an Armenian chronicle from around 660 A.D., which is ascribed by some to Bishop Sebeos (Sebeos 1904:94-96; Crone-Cook 1977:6).

The chronicler describes how Muhammad established a community which comprised both Ishmaelites (i.e. Arabs) and Jews, and that their common platform was their common descent from Abraham; the Arabs via Ishmael, and the Jews via Isaac (Sebeos 1904:94-96; Crone-Cook 1977:8; Cook 1983:75).

10. The Rooting of Islam in Bengal

Sources dating from the second through the seventh centuries reveal the gradual evolution of a monotheistic cult, heavily influenced by Jewish practice and Jewish apocalyptic thought, that in the time of Muhammad (d. 632) succeeded in absorbing neighboring pagan cults in the Arabian peninsula.

003white As early as the second Christian century, a Nabataean inscription identified Allah as the patron deity of an Arab tribe in northwestern Arabia.[50]

By the fifth century, two centuries before Muhammad, a Greek source reports Arab communities in northern Arabia practicing a religion that, although corrupted by the influence of their pagan neighbors, resembled the religion of the Hebrews up to the days of Moses.

They practiced circumcision like the Jews, refrained from eating pork, and observed “many other Jewish rites and customs.”

The source adds that these Arabs had come into contact with Jews, from whom they learned of their descent from Abraham through Ishmael and Hagar.[51]

The earliest known biography of Muhammad, found in an Armenian chronicle dating from the 660s, describes the Arabian prophet as a merchant who restored the religion of Abraham among his people and led his believers into Palestine in order to recover the land God had promised them as descendants of Abraham.[52]

The Hebrew form Eloah (אלוה, which looks as though it might be a singular form of Elohim) is comparatively rare, occurring only in poetry and late prose (in the Book of Job, 41 times). What is probably the same divine name is found in Arabic (Ilah as singular "a god", as opposed to Allah meaning "The God" or "God") and in Aramaic (Elaha).

A MIDIANITE vis-à-vis

(Exodus 18:12 KJV)

  • And Jethro, Moses' father in law,

  • and Aaron came,

  • and all the elders of Israel,

  • Moses' father in law

  • BEFORE GOD[ALLAH]

question

what did the above mean?

why did an israelite prophet PROSTRATE to an ISHMAELite IMAM [sa], KOHEN - PRIEST & PRINCE?

why did an ISHMAELite IMAM [sa] counsel and guide an israelite prophet  of moses'  supreme stature?

why did aaron, THE israelite kohen at the time,  NOT preside over the israelite traditions and ceremonies of the highest order?

  • and Aaron came,

  • and all the elders of Israel,

  • to eat bread with

  • Moses' father in law

  • BEFORE GOD

why was an ISHMAELite IMAM [sa] GIVEN THAT MUCH PREFERENCE and authority over moses, aaron and all the elders of Israel, respectively and/or simultaneously??

Jethro: a priest of the true God [OF ISHMAEL]

Exo 18:12 -
A burnt offering and sacrifices - This verse clearly shows that Jethro was recognized as a priest of the true God [OF ISHMAEL], and is of great importance in its bearings upon the relation between the Israelites and their congeners, and upon the state of religion among the descendants of Abraham.

as just seen, jethro, his father in law was not only a midianite -- ISHMAELite priest--IMAM-kohen & PRINCE  but also he was very instrumental in moses' israelite mission.

Aga Khan Announces
First Ismaili Centre in Middle East

Meets Crown Prince; visits historic and cultural sites

Dubai, UAE, 13th December, 2003 - His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, today announced the first Ismaili Centre to be built in the Middle East.

Addressing a distinguished gathering including national and civic leaders, religious dignitaries and diplomats, the Aga Khan expressed the "humble prayer that, when built, the Ismaili Centre in Dubai will be a place for contemplation and search for enlightenment, where people come together to share knowledge and wisdom. It will be a place of peace, of order, of hope and of brotherhood, radiating those thoughts, attitudes and sentiments which unite, and which do not divide, and which uplift the mind and the spirit."

"At a time when the search for mutual understanding remains essential to assuring peace and stability," said the Aga Khan, "the creation of spaces that will enable that search becomes a greater imperative than ever." The Centre, the Aga Khan said, "was conceived, and will be established, for that very purpose, amongst others."

If I could express one hope for all of you, as you leave this place today, it is that you will appreciate even more deeply HOW MUCH CULTURE MATTERS IN MUSLIM SOCIETIES, AND HOW DEEPLY CULTURE IS ENTWINED FOR MUSLIMS WITH MATTERS OF FAITH. THIS IS WHY WE CALL THIS EXHIBITION: 'SPIRIT AND LIFE'

At a time when the forces of exclusion, alienation, and separation can often seem so threatening in our world, I AM CONVINCED THAT OUR ABILITY TO HONOR AUTHENTIC SYMBOLS OF PRIDE AND IDENTITY - AND TO SHARE THEIR BEAUTY AND THEIR POWER WITH ONE ANOTHER - CAN BE A TREMENDOUS FORCE FOR GOOD. I hope you will feel the same way - let me thank you, most sincerely, once again, FOR SHARING WITH US IN THIS IMPORTANT MOMENT.

Thank you.

apparently, the holy QUR'AN collaborates the sequence of these events in that precise order. see the irrefragable details cited elsewhere.

The problem is that the Qur'an teaches that Ishmael was the child of promise (Sura 19:54; compare Sura 37:83-109 with Genesis 22:1-19) and so Muslims believe that God's covenant promises were meant for Ishmael's descendants, not Isaac's.

Who purchased Joseph,
the
Ishmaelites or the Midianites?

Genesis 37:28, 37:36 and 39:1

Ishmaelites
  • (Genesis 37:28) - "Then some Midianite traders passed by, so they pulled him up and lifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. Thus they brought Joseph into Egypt."
Midianites
  • (Genesis 37:36) - "Meanwhile, the Midianites sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, Pharaoh’s officer, the captain of the bodyguard."
Ishmaelites
  • (Genesis 39:1) - "Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the bodyguard, bought him from the Ishmaelites, who had taken him down there."

According to Achtemeier, Paul J., Th.D., Harper’s Bible Dictionary, (San Francisco: Harper and Row, Publishers, Inc.) 1985, the term "Ishamelite" was synomous with the term "Midianites."  They were probably references to the same general group known to have decended from AbrahamIshmael was born to Abrahm through Hagar (Genesis 16), the hand maiden.  The Midianites were descendants of Midian, a son of Abraham and his concubine Keturah (Genesis 25:1-2).  Additionally, "The term ‘Midianite’ probably identified a confederation of tribes that roamed far beyond this ancestral homeland, a usage that explains the biblical references to Midianites in Sinai, Canaan, the Jordan Valley, Moab, and Transjordan’s eastern desert. (Achtemeier, Paul J., Th.D., Harper’s Bible Dictionary)

The problem is that the Qur'an teaches that Ishmael was the child of promise (Sura 19:54; compare Sura 37:83-109 with Genesis 22:1-19) and so Muslims believe that God's covenant promises were meant for Ishmael's descendants, not Isaac's.

Muhammad, descended from Ishmael  and so Muslims seek to lay claim to these covenant promises, namely the land of Palestine.  .....  From these two brothers comes the Three most dominate world understandings that man has ever known, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

"Ahmad", or "Muhammad, the Praised One, is almost a translation of the Greek word Periclytos. In the present Gospel of John. xiv. 16, xv. 26, and xvi. 7, the word "Comforter" in the English version is for the Greek word "Paracletos", which means "Advocate", "one called to the help of another, a kind friend", rather than "Comforter". Our doctors contend that Paracleots is a corrupt reading for Periclytos, and that in their original saying of Jesus there was a prophecy of our holy Prophet Ahmad by name. Even if we read Paraclete, it would apply to the holy Prophet, who is "a Mercy for all creatures" (xxi. 107) and "most kind and merciful to the Believers" (ix. 128). See also n. 416 to iii. 81.

The Hebrew words Mahmad, Mahamod, Himdah, and Hemed appearing in the Old Testament and the Arabic words Muhammad and Ahmad are all derived from the same root "H, M and D," and refer to the same general meaning.

The Hebrew word for praised one is
Mahamad

The Hebrew word for Muhammad (the Arabic Prophet) is
Muhammad

(Deuteronomy 31:27 KJV) For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?

(Deuteronomy 31:28 KJV) Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to record against them.

ye will utterly corrupt yourselves

(Deuteronomy 31:29 KJV)

  1. For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves
  2. and turn aside from the way;
  3. which I have commanded you;
  4. and evil will befall you in the latter days;
  5. because ye will do evil;
  6.  in the sight of the LORD,
  7. to provoke him to anger
  8. through the work of your hands.

(Deuteronomy 31:30 KJV) And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.

WHY SHOULD WE DIE?
THEN WE SHALL DIE

(Deuteronomy 5:25 KJV)
Now therefore WHY SHOULD WE DIE?
for this great fire will CONSUME US
if we hear the voice of
the LORD OUR God any more,
THEN WE SHALL DIE.

(Deuteronomy 5:26 KJV)

  • For who is there of all flesh,
  • that hath heard ;
  • the voice of the living God
  • speaking out of the midst of the fire,
  • as we have, and lived?

compare

2:96. And thou wilt find them greediest of mankind for life and (greedier) than the idolaters. (Each) one of them would like to be allowed to live a thousand years. And to live (a thousand years) would be no means remove him from the doom. Allah is Seer of what they do.
Pickthal's Quran Translation

IMPORTANT NOTE:

first of, please note that jesus christ himself  was from THE SAME OLD  israelite dispensation;

AGAINST which the stiff necked israelites had REBELLED AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN since their exodus from egypt.

rest assured, the old testament and jesus' own teachings in the 4 canonical gospels, is a living and eternal testimony against them.

in short, they did not want 'another prophet' and/or to  even deal with the divine for the fear of death.

(Deuteronomy 34:10 KJV) And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,

THE 2ND PHASE

the lord god also REPLIED ACCORDINGLY.

THEY HAVE WELL SPOKEN

(Deuteronomy 18:17)
And the LORD said unto me,
THEY HAVE WELL SPOKEN[1]
that which they have spoken[2].

this then, may have been the primal mosaic foundation leading to an inevitable  'end of the israelite dispensation'  DOWN THE ROAD, if you will.

however, both david and jesus confirmed the above as well, each in his own distinctive manner, as will be seen herein.

  1. Lu`inal-Ladhīna Kafarū Min Banī 'Isrā'īla `Alaá Lisāni Dāwūda Wa `Īsaá Abni Maryama

  2. Dhālika Bimā `Aşaw Wa Kānū Ya`tadūna (5:78).

  1. 5:78.  CURSED were those who disbelieved from among the children of Israel by the tongue of Dawood and Isa, son of Marium;

  2. That was because they rebelled and used to transgress.

AN ABSOLUTE NEED

FOR A  NEW DISPENSATION OF RELIGION

Then what need was there for a Divine revelation to Mohammed ?

  • The answer of Islam is precise and clear.
  • In spite of its great spiritual strength, Jewish monotheism has retained two characteristics which render it essentially different from Islamic monotheism:
  • God has remained, in spite of all, a national and racial God for the children of Israel, and His personality is entirely separate from its supreme manifestation, the Universe.
  • Christianity lost its strength and meaning for Muslims in that it saw it great and glorious founder not as a man but as God incarnate in man, as God made Flesh.

Thus there was an absolute need for THE DIVINE WORD'S REVELATION, to Mohammed himself, a man like the others, of God's person and of his relations to the Universe which he had created.

(*) It must be realized that the Muslim concept of the Holy Spirit differs profoundly from the Christian idea of the Third Person of the Trinity.

(Extract from The Memoirs of the Aga Khan by H.H. The Aga Khan III)

the lord god would raise a non-israelite prophet for them FROM THEIR BRETHREN.

that is, a Prophet from among their brethren -
[ISHMAELITES], like unto thee;

(Deuteronomy 18:18 KJV)

WHO, according to the book of genesis only,  was/were the brethren of  ishmael's besides isaac during the lifetime of sarah???

(Genesis 16:11 KJV)

And the angel of the LORD said unto her,
Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son,
and shalt call his name Ishmael;
because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.

(Genesis 16:12 KJV)
And he will be a wild man;
his hand will be against every man,
and every man's hand against him;
and he shall dwell IN THE PRESENCE OF ALL his brethren.

leaving aside all the personal biases and the biblical-old prejudices, etc.,  just tell us WHO, according to the book of genesis only,  were the brethren of  ishmael's, besides isaac and the israelites living then???

this blood relation was established during the lifetime of sarah and her newly born son isaac.  abraham was 100 years old and sarah some 90 years old.

the REAL abrahamic story & history  began with hagar and ishmael in the old testament.

and unfortunately for sarah,  it was the only ill-fated blood relationship that she had ever known until her death, regardless.

therefore, none could or should deny this abrahamic blood ties between ishmael and isaac.

every aspect of the biblical revelation, regardless, was based on this primal abrahamic blood relationship only.

Elijah in the Guise of an Arab

jewishencyclopedia : ELIJAH

Elijah appeared to many while they were awake, and this in various ways.

He often elected to appear in the guise of an Arab () or, more exactly, in that of an Arab of the desert () (see Arabia in Rabbinical Literature ). ....

But when Elijah came the third time, the man consulted his wife as to what he should do. They concluded to tell the Arab that they wished to enjoy the good years at once; .... After six years the Arab returned and told them that the end of their prosperity had come. ..... God, who well knew what use this pious couple had made of their wealth, left it in their hands as long as they lived (Midr. Ruth Zuṭa, ed. Buber, near end).

In Mohammedan Literature:

Elijah is mentioned in the Koran as a prophet together with Zechariah, John, and Jesus (sura vi. 85); while in sura xxxvii. 123-130 it is said: "Verily, Elijah [Ilyas] was of the prophets, when he said to his people, 'Will ye call upon Baal and leave the best of creators, God, your Lord?'" In verse 130 he is called "Ilyasin": "Peace upon Ilyasin, thus do we reward those who do well."

The Jewish tradition that Elijah is identical with Phinehas is current among the Moslems also. They have, moreover, another tradition borrowed from the Jews. Elijah, they say, will appear on the last day, and either he or one of his descendants will await, in the interior of a mountain, the second coming of the Messiah.

Post subject: Where is the original Quran ?

The one in the temporal order

This question is prompted by the following thread

http://www.ismaili.net/html
but mostly this page mentioned in the above mentioned thread:

_http://www.aniskamdar.net/

The thread I could not follow much due to deletions
but the webpage is interesting.

This reminds me of some of the writings by the person Navroz Ali Vasanji
under various nicks such as
kenadian, navali, and so in newsgroups
like alt.religion.islam.shia specifically in fights with akbarali meherali
aka .... [as he calls him]. (Note: I have no relation to him.)

He also has some pages like these:

navali/ya_ali_madad

navali/imamat1

You can google for him and the following
link will take you to
his interesting ideas in his posts.

http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=navali

The main aspect of his writings that I recall from cursory examination
were trying
to deduce some conclusions from Gita, Bible and HQuran.
Others were some arguments about Qadiani and Rashed Khalifa.

He also had some discussion with David Goldman who was a
Neturei Kartainik ie member of Neturei Karta, _www.nkusa.org.

http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=navali

The more interesting aspect of his conversation that I found was the one
that dealt with explaining the Holy Quran using his methods of emphasizing
and writing english to improve the comprehension of English translation.

If any of you can follow the links of google groups, and give a good expose
and understanding of the HQ
. Is there any work done to give the
HQ in its original temporal order ?
Navali's style of writing translation
was interesting and worth examining.

It seems ok to discuss some of these sticky issues. The situation
of the
Ummah itself speaks the poor comprehension and thus poor action
from poor
inspiration. There is considerable disharmony and fragmentation.
A lot of time its the lack of
intellectual component ie proper
comprehension.
