Document Design
This worksheet gets the pupils to look at the 5 questions they should ask themselves before starting a new document. Who is the audience? Size of paper. It also start them analyzing an existing document and recognising the elements that appear on a document. Activity is to look at a newspaper or magazine article and put over the top the element block for: Titles, sub-headings, captions (new!), body text, header and footer, pictures, shapes.

Typefaces and their Uses
Choose the right typeface from the font families Serif, Sans-serif, Gothic, Script, Monospace, Fancy for the correct type of document of information. Activity for pupils to look at document and fill in a grid.

Choosing the Right Picture
Choosing the correct picture or illustration is very important in document design. The choice between a vector graphic or a bitmap graphic, the size of the picture so it does not overpower the document and take the attention away from text.

Colour Emotion
Explains all about the effects different colours give a picture. A very important feature of a well presented document and well worth bearing in mind when producing your own posters of publicity fliers.

Types of Formatting
The style of typeface and the emphasis set on the text have a great impact on the final document. A guide to help you judge when and where to use them.Activity to identify which types of documents have the different formatting styles e.g. drop caps.

Adjectives to describe documents
A list of adjective that can be used to describe documents. It is especially useful with the comparison exercise and the theatre poster.
