This Is The Last Time is a weird one. I feel that… it’s not… it’s a very well-intentioned song and the idea behind it is good but… it’s… I don’t feel like I really said what I wanted to say in a very clear way huh! Basically. I mean, the song is about being in a very comfortable relationship, where you feel very… you know, a lot of affection towards someone. It’s about feeling that, you know, that’s sort of grey, you don’t want to hurt this person but at the same time you feel you want to get out and find something that’s more magical, you know, like a real sort of passionate love, you know. It’s not about being cozy and comfortable, it’s about finding something that really sort of makes you feel alive and sort of lights up your life every day. So, it’s about the dilemma of wanting to… you know, having to leave that person behind and go off and search for something that more of something unknown, more of just a kind of romantic idea, but at the same time, saying…having to try to say that to the person you’re leaving behind and how to explain that is…obviously it’s a difficult thing to do.
My kind of view on things is a little bit …I tent to.. I’ve always been looking at sort of more difficult and confusing things. Whenever I start off writing songs it’s quite kind of happy and positive, but I always end up starting to undermine it and writing lyrics that undermine that, and by the time I’ve got to the end of the song, it’s all… it’s much more full of doubt.
This Is The Last Time jest dziwaczne... Czuję, że... to nie jest... ta piosenka ma dobre intencje i myśl, jaką przekazuje jest dobra ale... to... wydaje mi się, że to co chciałem powiedzieć, powiedziałem w niezbyt mądry sposób ha! W zasadzie. To znaczy, piosenka mówi o byciu w bardzo wygodnym związku, gdzie czujesz się bardzo... no wiesz, masz dużo uczucia do drugiej osoby. To jest o tym, jak czujesz że, no wiesz, taka niejasna rzecz, nie chcesz skrzywdzić tej osoby ale jednocześnie czujesz, że pragniesz się z tego wydostać i poszukać czegoś bardziej magicznego, wiesz, jak prawdziwa, namiętna miłość. Nie chodzi o to by czuć się wygodnie i komfortowo, ale o znalezienie czegoś, co naprawdę sprawi, że poczujesz, że żyjesz i co będzie rozświetlać każdy twój dzień życia. Więc chodzi o dylemat związany z tym, że chcesz... wiesz, porzucenie tej osoby i wyruszenie w poszukiwaniu czegoś, co jest zupełną niewiadomą, jest czymś w rodzaju romantycznej idei, a jednocześnie konieczność powiedzenia o tym osobie, którą opuszczasz i to w jaki sposób jej to wytłumaczyć... oczywiście to jest bardzo trudna rzecz.
Moje spojrzenie na sprawy jest trochę... skłaniam się do... zawsze patrzę na trudniejsze i niejasne rzeczy. Kiedy zaczynam pisać piosenkę jest ona całkiem radosna i pozytywna ale zawsze dochodzę do tego, że zaczynam wyciągać takie sprawy i pisać słowa, które to uwypuklają więc gdy dochodzę do końca piosenki jest ona... jest pełna wątpliwości.
