Northern Areas of Pakistan - A Quick Review

It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures: Therein is fruit and date-palms producing spathes (enclosing dates): Also corn with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder and sweet-smelling plants. Then which of the favors of your Lord will ye deny? (10-13:55,Noble Quran)

Geographically, it is located in the extreme north of Pakistan. The Northern areas are said as going without any political constitution and remaining as the unimplemented part of the agenda of division of India. These Areas have never had representation in any Assembly of Pakistan, of course, their elected council runs the affairs in collaboration with Pakistan Government. Please Click here for the Tourist Guide and many wonderful sceneries of this region, which is rich in Natural beauty.

Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah rightly described it an artery of life of Pakistan. The Indus river passing through here is narrowed so much at one point as to be called 'Astak Nala'. Its width is expanded into thousands of meters at Kotri and Hyderabad (Sindh). This is hardly imaginable to one seated in the hotel on its bank at Astak Nala and brooding over its course. It makes manifest its importance to the agriculture of the Punjab and Sindh, and its significance to the lives of the Karachiites (Citizens of Karachi, Pakistan).

The people of Northern Areas have been fighting the battle of Pakistan's security since 1979. The youth of every valley there is martyred and is smeared with his own blood. Shaheed Lalak Jan, Nishan-e-Haider (Biggest Military Award of Pakistan) was the son of this very place. The youth of this place is now given official status of Soldiers of Pakistan Armed Forces. A separate Military Regiment is created for this area named Northern Light Infantry (NLI). Let us acknowledge these facts; and keeping in view that they do what they are capable of, let us not discharge what devolves on us as duty. The disparity between the resources and the people's problems of life, a common tale of the Third World, is worsened here by inclement weather conditions and such natural phenomena, which keep the wheel jammed for half of the year, and even freeze civic life.

Hence, the resolution of Karsaz Trust to reduce the burden of the Government in their efforts to discharge a national duty of welfare towards people.
