DEVELOPMENTAL WORKS

Constructions have important role in development works. Petty construction works do not interest the big organisations, causing miseries to people. In such cases too, we come to the aid of the sufferers.

  1. Chokan (latrines): The streets with night-soils as well as the dirtiness spread by children here and there, suggest at first sight, unhealthyhabits of the people and unhygienic conditions, which indubitably prevail in the villages. While explaining to the females the importance of cleanliness of dwellings, streets and the village, we construct public latrines, as practical measure. We urge cooperative efforts to maintain cleanliness. We have constructed, by now, 8 latrines.
  2. Wells: Similarly, we help solve the problem of water which makes a burden on women and children. As to cleanliness, the people continue being given instructions, and advice to shun habits to spill dirty water on the streets. The detail as regards this problem of availability of water and drainage has already been given under Uplift of Women. It is, however, noted with regrets, that lack of people's interest in these welfare works bespeaks their reluctance to change their pattern of social life. This obstructs the speed of our scheme. However, 20 wells etc have been constructed so far in different villages.
  3. Construction of Mosque-Schools: All over Pakistan, mosques are built for prayers, but also play very important role in promotion of education. There is no sectarianism in Northern Areas; the Shias and the Sunnis may be seen offering prayers in the same mosque and together, by the grace of God. Hence the representation of both the Shias and the Sunni students in the mosque-schools. Also the Ismailis of liberal creed about Nimaz, Roza, Zakat and Haj send their children to those schools to learn the Holy Quran. They also believe, participation in building of mosques as an act of piety. A brief account of this subject has already been given in Education and Technical Training section. However, 12 Mosques and 4 Religious schools (Mosque Schools) were built in 2000.
