Round 16 - Jon Matlack - Pitcher Jon Matlack finished his 13 year Major league career with a 3.18 ERA and 7 seasons of 10 or more wins. Kaneohe expects Matlack to split time between the rotation and the bullpen. Year 1 sees Matlack in a very limited role, as the Hammerheads LOOGY (Lefthanded One Out Guy). In the 73 post-season for the Mets, Matlack went 2-2 with a 1.40 ERA in 25 2/3 IP. Jon provides another steady arm behind the early round picks.

Round 17 - Mike Greenwell - Outfield Mike saw limited action for the Red Sox in both 1985 and 1986, before finishing 4th in the Rookie of the Year voting in 1987. In '88 he finished behind another A's player, this time finishing 2nd in MVP voting. A .303 career hitter, Greenwell will provide another bat with some power to an otherwise light-hitting lineup.

Round 18 - Riggs Stephenson - Utility "Old Hoss" played 14 seasons in the Bigs, with a .336 avg. (22nd All-time). Riggs will find himself in a reserve role for several years with Kaneohe, possibly moving into the starting lineup in season 7. Until then, he'll fill in at several positions, serving as a backup to Gehringer and Kell and possibly an occasional start in the outfield as well. Hitting .330 or better in 7 of his 14 seasons, gives Kaneohe a great bat off the bench when needed as well.

Round 19 - Benito Santiago - Catcher 1987 NL Rookie of the Year, Benito Santiago will be the backup for Gary Carter for most of his time with Kaneohe. In season 2, (which will be the 1987 season for Benny) he'll step into the starting role. Santiago is a 4-time Silver Slugger, and 5-time All-Star. He played 20 seasons in the Major Leagues, retiring after the 2005 season. He is the first of only 2 players on the Hammerhead roster that have been active in the past 5 years.

Round 20 - Phil Rizzuto - Shortstop Needing a full-time starter at SS for season 1, Kaneohe considered a few options before settling on Scooter. With 2 top-20 MVP votes in his first two seasons, Rizzuto provides a solid lead-in for future star Joe Sewell. Scooter misses seasons 3-6 due to WWII, but will come back to provide a strong bat off the bench and solid defense when needed. A career .273 hitter, Phil finished 2nd in MVP voting in 1949, and won the award in 1950. Rizzuto went to the All-Star game in 5 of his 13 seasons, and played in 9 WS. Phil Rizzuto was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1994.
