Round 6 brought more pitching help to the Islands in the form of "Smoky" Joe Wood
Smoky Joe was one of many pitchers of the early 20th century who eventually made the switch to full-time position players.  His first 7 years came on the mound, where he will make his debut for Kaneohe.
He finished his pitching career with a 2.03 ERA and gave up only 10 homeruns in 11 full and partial seasons.
Once his time on the mound is up, the Hammerheads will find themselves with one more solid bat in the outfield.
Like second round pick Nap Lajoie, the 7th pick for Kaneohe was an investment in the future.  Joe Sewell will not see more than 100 AB in our first year, but is expected to take over at Shortstop in year 2.
A career .312 hitter, Sewell provides a solid left-handed bat that seems to find the gaps for doubles with great frequency.  Joe had 4 top 10 MVP finishes in his 14 seasons.
Joe Sewell was selected for the
Hall of Fame in 1977.
8th round pick, Jack Chesbro once had 48 complete games, in one season.
Chesbro played 11 seasons in the big leagues, amassing 198 career wins, with a 2.68 ERA.  He started 332 games in his 11 seasons, but had 260 complete games.  That means he finished 78% of the games he started.
Small of stature at 5'9", Happy Jack will never be the biggest guy on the roster, but if he can put together a few seasons like his real life counterparts, he may be the biggest winner in Kaneohe.
  Chesbro was inducted into the
Hall of Fame in 1946.
Hubert Benjamin "Dutch" Leonard became a Hammerhead in round 9.  The left-handed pitcher played 11 seasons for the Red Sox and Tigers posting a career ERA of 2.76.  He beat that number in his first 6 seasons, and was one point (2.77) higher the next.  In 1914, Dutch posted a W-L record of 19-5, with a 0.96 ERA, the lowest full season ERA in modern baseball history.  Only Tim Keefe in 1880 posted a lower ERA for a single season, but that season he threw underhand as was the rule.
Kaneohe hopes that Dutch's best
season will help them make a run at
the championship in season 2 of the
UPL.
In round 10, the Hammerheads decided to secure their Catcher for 12 of the next 13 seasons with Gary Carter.
The Kid played in parts of 19 seasons for 4 different teams, mainly the Expos and Mets.  NL Rookie of the Year in 1975, 11 All-Star selections, and 4 top 10 MVP finishes.  Carter will provide most of the punch for Kaneohe in the early years.  He finished his career with 324 round-trippers.
Gary took his place in the
Hall of Fame in 2003.
