When in August Gareth took some leave,
he came to visit me in Australia. A move that was to allow people
to contrive to push him out of work.
We fellowshipped once whilst
he was here, and it was beautiful. I was stood next to the man I love
in a Spirit filled congregation, and God did not strike me down, nor
did anyone speak out against us. I knew we were honouring God, and his
Son.
We were giving even more
of our lives to Jesus to look after. This was to be shown as Gareth's
holiday drew to a close, and he attempted to gain access to his web
site at the college. He calmly
wrote to the administration of the college network, to get a reply along
the lines of they did not want to discuss this, and that he needed to
talk to the college human resources people.
When he contacted them,
they indicated that they would discuss the issue upon his return. We
were shaken, and started to wonder what was going on.
Was this something we had
done wrong, or was it a trial for us to see if we would stay together?
Was it a case of God stepping back to test our resilience against attack
from people who were unable to comprehend love expressed differently
from themselves? Gareth returned
to the UK, with me in tears, because my heart yearned for his presence
with me. I spent time with God, talking to Him, telling Him how I felt.
God listened patiently.
When he got to the UK, all
the guns were pointing at him. The college suspended pending an investigation
into supposed misconduct. I was shocked, horrified, devastated. This
though was only minor compared to how he was feeling.
Yet amongst this, God was
there, teaching us to trust in Him. God was there in the times that
were to follow. He had our lives in hand, and it was to become more
and more evident.
