Computing

During my secondary school years, I developed an interest in computers through a member of my form (Anthony J).

I went on to be the student in charge of the school computing facilities by the time I reached the 5th Form (15 years old+).

My first computer was a ZX-80 with 1K RAM. Upgraded to 4K RAM by add-on device.

Next computer was the Sinclair Spectrum, followed by an Apple IIe.

The progression onto an Acorn Archimedes, was followed up by buying my first PC compatible - a Toshiba T4500.

The T4500 had a SCSI card and NEC External CD-ROM drive, along with a pocket modem (V.32 with fax). The T4500 was stolen (and thankfully returned), and in 1995 I purchased my second machine for home - a Total Peripherals Pentium 60 system with 16M RAM, 1G HD, Ethernet Card and a couple of other extras.

I added SoundBlaster 16 ASP multi-media kit and a Banksia MyFastModem to this system (as well as laser and colour bubble-jet printers).

Since then it's had to be upgraded rapidly to a Pentium-150, extra hard drive space, and backup system.

The latest purchases at home are a Comdek Pentium II 400, with 8G HD, Sound Blaster 32, CD-Rom, CD-R, LS-120 and a few other bits. I got Gareth a Pentium III 600 for Christmas 1999.

The Old pentium 150 is now my fire server. The Petium 60 has been retired (we are looking at Linux on this) and the T4500 has died. Maybe I'll see if someone would like to have a go at getting it running again.

Through my school friend I have now been interested in computing for well in excess of 15 years.
