KACSPORTS 2005 PRE-SEASON FANTASY FOOTBALL RANKINGS - RUNNING BACKS
(THROUGH 8/28)

1.
LADAINIAN TOMLINSON Average fell while battling groin injury most of the season, still wound up scoring 18 times.
2.
SHAUN ALEXANDER Getting contract done solidifies him at #2.
3.
KEVIN JONES Went #4 overall in one experts draft.
4.
WILLIS MCGAHEE Average wasn't the greatest, but averaged 100 yards and over a TD per start in 2004.
5.
PRIEST HOLMES Touchdown machine still deserves to be drafted high, just make sure to handcuff him with Larry Johnson. At age 32, Holmes could hit the wall for good this year.
6.
COREY DILLON Conservative pick who'll grind out 100 yards and a score every week. Headaches come when he's listed as questionable for nine consecutive weeks.
7.
EDGERRIN JAMES Manning throws for so many TD's in the red zone that it ends up hurting Edge.
8.
JULIUS JONES Very hard to handicap who the second best running back will be, but the Dallas offense will revolve around Jones.
9.
DEUCE MCALLISTER Ace, Deuce, and not enough use last year.
10.
RUDI JOHNSON Not unlike his predecessor, Rudi churned out his own quiet season and was pushing 1,500 yards when it was over.
11.
STEVEN JACKSON Has a chance to be every bit as explosive as his predecessor, trick knee a small concern.
12.
JAMAL LEWIS Playing for the Mean Machine may have been a reality for Jamal this off-season. Bad news is that Dalip Singh will not be invited to Ravens camp.
13.
CURTIS MARTIN Surprisingly won rushing title at age 32, but is destined to slip some.
14.
AHMAN GREEN Trial for latest off-field escapade comes on the eve of season opener. Suspension from the league soon after is a definite possibility.
15.
TIKI BARBER Plenty of total yards, but rookie Brandon Jacobs looks primed to steal goal-line carries.
16.
CLINTON PORTIS I warned you last year that moving to the NFC East would be hazardous to his stats, boy was I right.
17.
DOMANICK DAVIS Played well down the stretch, but didn't like his averages early.
18.
LAMONT JORDAN Finally out of Curtis Martin's shadow, Jordan averaged 5.2 a pop for the Jets last year.
19.
DESHAUN FOSTER Stephen Davis' comeback questionable at best.
20.
J.J. ARRINGTON If you think rating the second-year backs was hard, try handicapping the rooks. Even being a second-rounder, Arrington has a chance to out-produce the big three.
21.
TRAVIS HENRY Logic says he beats out Chris Brown.
22.
CARNELL WILLIAMS Getting contract done early gives Cadallac head start on being top rookie back.
23.
FRED TAYLOR I've upped him a little, but condition of knee still a concern.
24.
BRIAN WESTBROOK Buckhalter returns and the Eagles also drafted a back, so the Eagles could be looking at a three-pronged attack. Surprise holdout further hurts value.
25.
RONNIE BROWN I'll believe the Ricky Williams comeback when I see it.
26.
DUCE STALEY Was a top-15 back before getting hurt at mid-season.
27.
T.J. DUCKETT There's enough touches for him, 19 TD's the last two years.
28.
LARRY JOHNSON Like Aruban homicide suspects, Johnson and Priest need to be handcuffed together.
29.
MIKE ANDERSON It's time to start believing, although Tatum Bell will become the man at some point..
30.
TATUM BELL It's said Mike Anderson will start the year, don't expect it to be for long.
31.
THOMAS JONES Should get you through the first six weeks or so.
32.
MICHAEL BENNETT Onterrio Smith out of the picture, but the Vikes evidently knew that situation before the draft, and selected yet another back.
33.
WARRICK DUNN Duckett and Dunn's roles well-defined.
34.
MEWELDE MOORE Sprains ankle just when it looked like he was good for Week 1 start.
35.
KEVAN BARLOW A major dissapointment, but not much out there to replace him.
36.
LEE SUGGS Looks like the starter, but not very durable.
37.
CHRIS BROWN Remember a San Francisco Giants third baseman named Chris Brown?? This guy gets hurt about as much.
38.
LABRANDON TOEFIELD Could get golden opportunity with Taylor possibly out, but hasn't shown much thus far.
39.
NAJEH DAVENPORT Would step in if Ahman suspended.
40.
MICHAEL PITTMAN Won't be too easy to push out, rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and 10 TD's in '04.
41.
CEDRIC BENSON Longer he holds out the longer he sits behind Thomas Jones.
42.
REUBEN DROUGHNS I don't think he's much of an upgrade over William Grenn/Lee Suggs.
43.
MARSHALL FAULK How the mighty have fallen.
44.
RICKY WILLIAMS Return might be too little, too late for his career.
45.
FRANK GORE Another Gore in a close election, he should win his recount and start by October.
46.
RYAN MOATS Rookie moves up to #2 on the depth chart with Buckhalter out for the year.
47.
JEROME BETTIS More like a shuttle than a Greyhound these days, but will still get goal-line carries.
48.
BRANDON JACOBS Biggest thing to come out of Southern Illinois since Prophet Yahweh expected to become Giants' goal-line back.
49.
WILLIAM GREEN Has reportedly had a nice off-season.
50.
MOE WILLIAMS Probably Minny's most reliable back, but with not much upside.
51.
MARCEL SHIPP Coming back from a busted leg.
52.
STEPHEN DAVIS Still has to be considered, but it's going to be a long road back.
53.
QUENTIN GRIFFIN Undersized back had huge game in Broncos season opener last year. Coming back from a torn ACL.
54.
NICK GOINGS Reserve did better than expected filling in after top three backs got hurt in '04. Could be as high as a #2.
55.
MIKE ALSTOTT Could be near the end of the road. Goal-line carries are his best fantasy hope.
56.
MARION BARBER Fourth-round pick could emerge as a #2 back.
57.
DOMINIC RHODES Edge's backup best know for 1,100 rushing yards back in 2001. Averaged 4.8 per carry last year.
58.
JUSTIN FARGAS Ton of speed, but strictly a situational back.
59.
CIATRICK FASON Minnesota, the land of a thousand backs, I imagine Ciatrick will get his shot.
60.
CEDRIC HOUSTON Some late round picks end up making it big in this league, especially if they come out of a big time program. This sixth rounder out of Tennessee has a chance to be one of those cases.
