Admission : The minimum qualification for admission to this
course is a degree in Arts/Science/Commerce of a recognised University.
Preference will be given to higher degree holders in Arts/ Science/
Commerce. ADMISSION IS DONE STRICTLY ON THE BASIS OF MERIT.
The medium of instruction in this college is English and that of
Examination is either English or Bengali.
Classes are held usually between 4.50 p.m. and 8.50 p.m.
Practice Teaching will be arranged during normal school hours (Day
Time) in different schools. Each trainee is to function in the school
as a regular teacher.
Only Approved Whole-Time Permanent Teachers of Recognised Secondary
Schools are considered as Teacher Candidates. Teacher of Primary
Schools or un-approved teachers, Part-Time Teachers and Contractual
Teacher or otherwise will not be considered as teacher candidates.
(Teacher of a Govt./Govt. Sponsored/Govt. Aided schools will be
preferred)
ADMISSION PROCEDURE (200 -200 SESSION)

Application Forms reaching the College Office after the specified
"last date of submission of Application Forms" will not
be accepted under any circumstances.
1. Applicants are to carefully note the AGE LIMIT which is strictly
adhered to :
i) Freshers (Other than Teachers) : Maximum 35 years on 01.07.200
ii) Approved Teachers : Maximum 45 years on 01.07.200
2. Properly filled in prescribed Application Forms for Admission
are to be submitted to the College Office by the specified date.
3. Application Forms must accompany attested copies of all Certificates,
Mark-sheets and Testimonials. In addition to the above, Teacher
Candidates are to enclose documents regarding their permanent teacher-ship
in a recognised secondary school (for Govt./Govt. Sponsored/Govt.
Aided Schools - Attested copy of D.I./D.S.E. approval, Appointment
letter and for other category of school - Attested copy of Appointment
Letter, Confirmation Letter, Copy of Resolutions of Managing Committee
of the school regarding his/her appointment and confirmation &
Last Pay Certificate including scale of pay) . NO DOCUMENTS SHOULD
BE ACCEPTED AFTER SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM.
4. INCOMPLETE OR INCORRECTLY FILLED IN APPLICATION FORM WILL BE
REJECTED.
5. REFERENCE CARD, attached to the APPLICATION FORM, will have to
be kept by the Applicant for production at the time of ADMISSION
(if selected).
6. Selection of Candidates will be made on the basis of the following
weightages : Performances in Previous Examinations (90%), Extra-Curricular
Activities (10%).
7. Reservation of Seats : 95% seats of FRESHER GENERAL Category
are reserved for Jadavpur University students (who have got the
last Degree from the Jadavpur University),
S.C., S.T. & PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED candidates as per Govt.
rules.
8. Equivalent scores for total Marks obtained (in terms of %) in
different examinations (shown below) are to be mentioned in the
appropriate column of the Application Form by the applicant.

9. (A) Extra-Curricular Activities : 10% Marks (Certificates of
University, Govt. or Govt./University recognised organisation will
be considered)
Following areas will be considered as Extra-curricular activities

(a) Music/Dance/Drama/Recitation (Final Degree/Diploma Certificate),
(b) Sports/ Games/Athletics (University/State level),
(c) N.S.S. (Minimum 3 Camps) /N.C.C.(Captain level)/Bratachari (Nayek
Level),
(d) Mass Edu- cation/ Voluntary Blood Donation,
(e) Needle work (Diploma)/Arts & Craft (Diploma).
Each area carries 2 Marks.
10. (i) Every student is to study Two Method Subjects to be chosen
from the following Three Groups, (Not more than One subject from
a Group)
At present following subjects are taught in this College.
Group A : Bengali/Physical Science/Bio-Science.
Group B : English/Geography/Mathematics.
Group C : History/Book Keeping/Work Education.
(ii) One Special Paper is to be taken from the following special
papers :
(a) Mental Hygiene.
(b) Mental & Educational Measurement,
(c) Adult and Non-formal Education.
Note : Proper counseling for selecting Method Papers &
Special Paper will be organised in the college for this purpose
at the time of admission.

Note: Applicants having Honours/Post Graduation in Economics,
Political Science, International Relations, Sanskrit, Philosophy,
Comparative Literature, Geology would be considered at par with
the applicants having Honours/Post Graduation in the subjects mentioned
under groups in instruction No. 10. But they are to select the Method
Subjects, which are taught in the College.
FOR SELECTED APPLICANTS
1. List of Selected candidates with Dates for Admission will be
put up on the College Notice Board. No postal or telephonic information
will be provided.
2. At the time of Admission every candidate is to produce all documents
in original :
i) The Reference Card (attached to the application form),
(ii) Three copies 1"X1" size recent photographs,
(iii) REGISTRATION CARD for Jadavpur University students,
(iv) All Mark-sheets & Certificates.
For Teacher Candidates : In addition to above, following
documents are to be shown in Original :
(a) Appointment Letter
(b) D.I./D.S.E. Approval Letter (for Govt./Govt. Sponsored/Govt.
Aided School Teachers),
and for Private/Trustee managed school Teachers -
(a) Appointment Letter,
(b) Resolution of the Managing Committee regarding his/her appointment,
(c) Confirmation Letter (from competent Authority)
(d) Resolution of the Managing Committee regarding his/her Confirmation.
(e) Salary Certificate.
3. Students who are irregular in attendance or fail to participate
in any component of the course programme shall be liable to be discharged
from the college.
ALL ADMISSIONS ARE PROVISIONAL. ANY DISCREPANCY DETECTED EVEN AFTER
ADMISSION WILL LEAD TO OUTRIGHT CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION.
Sessions : The college conducts the 15-month evening course
in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) of Jadavpur University for both
male and female (Teachers and Freshers). The session starts from
the month of July every year and ends in September in the next year.
The final examination of the said course is generally held in the
month of November/December.
The College remains open from 3.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. every day except
Sundays and other sanction holidays. But the classes are usually
held between 4.50 p.m. and 8.50 p.m. Practice teaching is arranged
during normal school hours (day time) in different schools.
Examination : The college conducts Class tests and Annual
test. The B.Ed. Final Examination (Theoretical, Laboratory Practical
& Teaching Practical) is conducted by the Jadavpur University.
In accordance with the relevant examination rules of the Jadavpur
University. Accordingly examination scripts are examined by internal
as well as external examiners.
Students who have attained the necessary percentage of attendance
(60% in each paper) are permitted to sit for the final B.Ed. examination
of the University. Participation in co-curricular activities is
also counted for attendance and marks are given according to participation
and performance.
Convocation : At a solemn convocation presided over by the
Governor of the State & Chancellor of the University, students
receive their degree along with the students of the other departments
of Jadavpur University on the 24th of December every year.
Prizes : The student securing the highest mark in the final
examination is awarded University Gold Medal and an Endowment Medal.
There are other prizes for sports, cultural activities, co-curricular
activities, Educational Exhibition etc..
