Dr. Chase's thirty-eighth edition was stereotyped (a printing
method in which a wet mat is first pressed against the set type
to form mirror images. Then the mat is removed and molten lead is
poured onto the mat filling the imprints. When cooled, the lead sheet
was place on the press, inked and the printed page produced. This method
of printing widely used by newspapers until the 50's, does not give a sharp
image but is/was economical.) in 1866. This page is a reasonable reproduction of Dr. Chase's inside front cover.
