FEMALE

Irving, Draper,

Female Debility and Other Irregularities

Dr. Chase wrote in his book: "It is self evident fact that the finer the work, and the more complicated the piece of machinery, the more liable is it to become deranged, or out of order; and the more skillful must be the mechanic who undertakes to make any necessary repairs."

"In the good old "grandmother-days", of girls helping with the work of the household; warm but loose clothing, plain food, good thick-soled shoes, and absence of novels to excite sexual thoughts, &c., such a thing as a feeble, debilitated woman or girl was hardly known; but now sedentary habits, stimulating food, every conceivable unphysiological style of dress (see also,Washington Irving), paper-soled shoes, checking perspiration, excitable reading, repeated colds by exposure going to and from parties thinly clad, standing out talking with supposed friends (real enemies) when they ought to be by the fire or in bed .... all tend to general debility; and the real wonder is that there are so few cases."

Well what's new! Perhaps we should add tv/movies/loud music/ chewing and popping gum, &c., to the list but Dr. Chase was right-on.

Do you really want to know what CURES were used to treat those stricken with diseases, injury and body ills?

On the other hand, perhaps a further look at the "Good Old Days" is what you need?
