A Praising Family
Dear Friend,
I dont know what you are facing now but I know from my on experience that you
are not alone. I have been through much in my life, including eight auto accidents,
but nothing as life changing as our car accident in December 2000.
My husband, our two grown sons and myself were in the automobile. I was driving.
It was a cold day with threatening weather; we were taking my sons to work thirty
minutes away from our home. It had started raining and there were warnings of sleet,
so I was driving very carefully about 30 miles an hour, it was icing up and I was
thinking about turning around. We came to the top of a hill and saw a car in the
ditch on our right, I started to slow down to a stop when all of a sudden another
car came at us sideways across the highway head on. A young girl was trying desperately
to get control of her car.
I knew at that moment there was nothing I could do she was going to hit us.
The next thing I knew I woke up trapped lying on the steering wheel thinking please
God let this be a dream. It wasnt. A paramedic climbed into the car and cut me lose,
I started feeling the pain then. I remember asking about my family, and the other driver,
they told me my family was fine but wouldnt talk about the other driver. I knew then she
was dead.
As they wheeled me into the emergency room I saw my family, my oldest son had a
concussion and broken nose and was cut up and bruised. He hit my seat causing the
seat to trap me and keep him from going through the windshield; he was the only one
not wearing a seat belt. My husband had four broken ribs, not a cut on him, which was
a praise because he is a heart patient, and is on blood thinner, a cut might have
caused him to bleed to death before help could get there. My youngest son they told
me had a broken back; he was taken immediately to a larger hospital more prepared to
deal with his injury. I had two broken bones in my face from the steering wheel, cuts,
whiplash and a bruised chest.
I was right the young girl was killed instantly, I remember asking and thinking is she
a Christian? I didnt want to be responsible for the death of another especially if they
would end up in hell. Since then I have realized isnt that what we are responsible for
if we dont tell others we meet about Jesus. My youngest son underwent surgery and when
the doctor came out he told my brother that Jeff should be paralyzed from the waist down
as large piece of bone had gone into the spinal cord. The doctor gave all the glory to God
and said God was responsible for Jeff being able to move his legs and walk, that he as a
surgeon had nothing to do with it. It was totally GOD.
I later learned from the Highway Patrol that the accident was so bad that we all
should have perished in it. I give GOD the praise for the fact we survived it,
we had prayed before we left in the driveway and I believe GOD honored and save
us from what was meant for evil.
I have learned to have a closer walk with the Lord since that accident, take nothing
for granted and trust in the Lord. There have been many trying times, with medical bills,
the girl had no insurance but liability, not enough to pay the bills but GOD has been good
and provided. There is nothing so bad that GOD cant see us through. He is our provider and
healer. He teaches us and He loves us if we let Him. I would not want to go through this
ordeal again but I dont regret what I have learned in the process. My family was spared
we were given a miracle, but through this miracle I have learned the greatest miracle of
all was the one I already had "The love of God".
How about you? Is that Love of God yours today???
Best regards,
Chrystal
