Wednesday started pretty early as I went to the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace. Such a disappointment! But at least I've seen it. Then I went to the National Portrait Gallery for another quick under hour tour this time. After lunch, I traveled south of the Thames to the London Bridge stop on the Tube. I saw the bridge (it was still standing) and walked along the bridge to Shakespeare's Globe. Yes, the Globe is still standing, well, at least a new Globe, but it's built as closely to the old one as they could. It's actually the only building in London allowed to have a thatch roof since the great London fires of i forget when. I took the tour (the only museum or site I paid to enter my entire trip!) and it really was amazing. I could almost see myself there in Shakespeare's time, and even though they wouldn't let me on the stage, I had an itch. It definitely brought me back to my great Shakespeare part in High School. Yes, I was the horn blower in Midsummer Night's Dream.
After that I went to Tate Modern, the modern art museum, and it really was great. This was the only museum where I couldn't do my famous hour and a half trip, and I really wish I could have had more time, but now I have a reason to go back. After the museum, I met Carmie for Indian food (soooo good...) and we went on to We Will Rock You, the new musical with Queen music. Let's just say that everything Les Mis is, this was not, and to any of you who are thinking about seeing it, don't, and buy the best of Queen cd instead, but it was fun, and we learned that just because it's on broadway or the west end doesn't mean it's good... |
