Amidines

Another reaction that can easily be done with oxime mesylate 9 (see basic concepts) is a rearrangement to an amidine by adding an amine.

Thirteen amidines were produced by this method. Although many of them showed antifungal activity, their potency stayed behind the one of the N-substituted and alpha-substituted amines. Even the two best representatives of the amidines 58 and 60, were less potent then the best substances of this thesis by the factor 50.

By further reacting the amidines gained or by similar reaction of the oxime mesylate 9, benzimidazol 67, triazol 70 and tetrazol 72 were obtained. Although only 67 showed any antifungal activity, both 67 and 70 were cytostatic at a concentration of 10-5 mol/l.
