Guided Missile
GBU-15(V) 2
Glide Bomb

Weight: 2,450 lbs.
Height: 12 feet 9 inches
Guidance: Imaging Infrared

A guided missile is equipped with a guidance and control system. It consists of simple optical aiming, with a heat seeking homing head, and other sophisticated systems. To achieve accuracy, the missile uses gyroscopes, and other devices. The missile follows a preset course, and swivels the engine to the target.

There are two types of guidance systems, an external or internal system. The external one uses a home, light or radar beam. Where as the internal one uses an electronic preprogrammed course.

A guided missile can be guided by two methods. One is the beam ride system, which is, the target is tracked down by a radar, TV, or laser beam, and the missile follows the beam to its target. The other one is by command guidance, where separate trackers are provided for the target and the missile, with guidance commands are transmitted to the missile by a command link.
