TRED 701: Enhancing Teaching Through Technology

Class Newsletter

Description of the Project:

A Microsoft Word document which is created for parents, students, or peers. The focus can be on any number of topics, such as syllabus information, introduction to a unit, or policies and procedures. Each newsletter is to demonstrate certain features of Microsoft Word, such as Wordart, Clipart, borders, and various fonts.

My Class Newsletter...

...is designed to introduce a unit on estimation to a class of middle or high school students. A "feature story" is included to introduce estimation and highlight its usefulness. A "related story" is also included to give students the relevant details about the unit they are about to start. Click here to see it…

Applicable ISTE Standards:

Standard II: Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences: A newsletter can be used in many ways to improve the learning environment, engaging students and keeping their interest.

Standard III: Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum: Having students create a newsletter provides them with an opportunity to develop technological skills and creativity.

Standard IV: Assessment and Evaluation: A newsletter could provide an alternative means for students to demonstrate their knowledge (as opposed to other means, such as simple essays or short responses to questions).
