Who is Jeff Johnson?

I am a Master’s Degree candidate in Secondary Mathematics Education at the George Washington University (GWU). I will start my student teaching in January, 2001 and I will become a full time teacher in the Fall of 2001. I have spent the past nine years as a Mechanical Engineer. I hope to use my engineering experience to become an effective teacher of mathematics, providing rich contexts and unique experiences for my students.

What is TRED 701?

TRED 701 is the course number for "Enhancing Teaching Through Technology." I am taking this course as an elective in my Master’s program at GWU. I chose the course because I want to learn more about effectively using technology in the classroom to improve mathematics education for my students.

What is an Electronic Portfolio?

An electronic portfolio is simply a collection of work stored in an electronic form. This particular collection has been created for two purposes. First, to showcase the work that has been done during the course. Second, to demonstrate how technology standards are being addressed by this work. The target standards are the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards (NETS).

What are the Standards?

The target standards are the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards (NETS). The primary goal of the Project is to develop national standards for educational uses of technology that facilitate school improvement in the United States. The NETS Project is working to define standards for students, integrating curriculum technology, technology support, and standards for student assessment and evaluation of technology use.
