Therapeutic Touch is a contemporary interpretation of several ancient healing
practices, and was developed around thirty years ago by Dr. Dolores Krieger,
Professor Emeritus of Nursing at New York University, and Dora Kunz, a noted
healer. The practitioner uses the hands as a means of facilitating healing by
working with energy. There are some similarities to Reiki, but also some
significant differences. Therapeutic Touch has gained wide acceptance and is
taught in many schools of nursing throughout the world. As in Reiki practice,
the client remains fully clothed during treatment.
The practitioner, after focusing (becoming centred), makes an assessment of the
clientıs energy field using the hands held 10 15cms off the body, The energy
field may then be manipulated by gentle hand movements off the body so as to
re-balance the field so that it feels even and smooth all over. In this
process, the hands are used to clear, change, or send energy. A further
re-evaluation follows before completion of treatment. There may be a profound
relaxation response and reduction of anxiety, and a general promotion of
wellbeing.
The practice is based on the most fundamental principles of life - rhythm and
water. Rhythm is natural to humans, so everyone can relate to, and benefit from
Holistic Pulsing., We also possess an inseparable bond with water since our
beginning in the womb. During a session, the body of the "pulsee" is gently
stretched, or rocked with a rhythm close to the foetal heartbeat (120 - 160
beats per minute); this allows muscles to relax and tension is thereby
released. This can be the whole body or it can be individual portions of the
trunk or individual limbs.
Pulsing treatments are normally given with the receiver - the pulsee - lying
usually face up, or face down, or occasionally on the side, on a treatment
table, and clothing , other than footwear, is not removed. Amongst other
benefits, a pulsing treatment may relieve stress and quickly relax both muscles
and the nervous system through gentle rhythm; it can also help restore mobility
to all joints and address physical and emotional blockages. These blockages are
detected by both pulser and pulsee, and are dissolved without trauma. Both then
experience the "Power of Softness" and healing through pleasure rather than
pain.
Quantum Touch is yet another energy technique which uses life-force energy, as
is used in Reiki, qi gong and other forms of energy work. All these practices
use a light touch of the hands without any manipulation or massage.
The practice stands alone, but can be enhanced when used with other energy
techniques or practices. In recent years, Quantum Touch has become well-known
in the United States and Canada, and has interested many people already trained
in Reiki. The first training to take place in Australia was held in Melbourne
in May 2004. Jim has himself taken this training, and encourages others with
Reiki training to explore Quantum Touch, which employs specific breath
techniques and concentration. He believes that Reiki and Quantum Touch will
enhance each other.
Opportunites for supervised training in Austrlia are currently limited, but
Quantum Touch can be learned very easily from a video presentation published by
Richard Gordon, who is the original teacher of this art. Jim has a copy of this
presentation and is willing to facilitate groups wishing to learn the practice.

What is ...
These applications include the fast relief of acute and chronic pain as well as
many other applications.
A Macquarie University randomised control trial using ENAR versus conventional
TENS has been conducted in Sydney and this showed 'dramatic and sustained
results' with chronic pain reduction, functional improvements and general
health restoration.
Jim has completed the Certificate training program in ENAR theory and practice,
and has found that clients who have pain have benefited from the combined use
of Reiki and ENAR therapies.
