This is the official website of the United Nations Student Association (UNSA) of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. John Jay College is one of the senior colleges in the City University of New York Institution (CUNY). Since it is one of the youngest colleges in the ten-school network, John Jay College receives substantially smaller funding than any other senior college. Moreover, John Jay is oriented towards public service, particularly in the field of Criminal Justice where it is nationally recognized for its contributions. Furthermore, the overwhelming majority of students are ethnic minorities that come from low- income families. These students contribute substantially to the diversity of intellectual value that exists at John Jay College.
The United Nations Student Association is a club composed of individuals who enjoy studying multifarious political policies, organizations, and cultures, while learning to conciliate others through diplomacy. For years, UNSA has played a pivotal role in John Jay College's student community. This club has established itself as a major organization for the promotion of dignity, human rights and the respect for the international legal norms. Bearing in mind these principles, in the past several years UNSA has contributed to John Jay College by organizing lectures, panel discussion, and seminars regarding international relations, human rights, the role and structure of the United Nations, and etc. The United Nations Student Association (UNSA) has been at John Jay for several years now. Its main mission is to inform the John Jay College community about the issues of the United Nations and international affairs. It also takes part in many conferences such as the National Model United Nations conference, and the Security Council Simulation at Yale. UNSA, aside from its of commitment to the John Jay community, has also developed a plan to host a conference at John Jay College. This conference is designed to educate city high school students about international criminal justice, the United Nations system, diplomacy, and international relations in general. UNSA is the first club in John Jay College history to hold such a conference.
From the 2003 NMUN Conference in which John Jay College Represented the Republic of PeruUNSA members are of a diverse background. Some of them are international students that come to the United States to further their intellectual horizons. Others are immigrants from numerous parts of the world. As inhabitants of America they continue to nurture interest in international affairs. These students embrace their delegate duties with passion and dedication by meeting every week for as long as seven hours to debate and exchange their research. The fact that they have to commute from home to school while maintaining jobs, demonstrates their genuine commitment to exploring their intellectual horizons. Moreover, these students are amongst the brightest in school. They participate in different extracurricular activities where they hold executive positions; they also maintain a very good academic standing that allows them to earn prestigious scholarships and awards. From the 2003 NMUN ConferenceUNSA's Executive Board for the 2003-2004 academic year consists of four (4) positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. During the election meeting: Mr. Jason Roderiques was elected President, Ms. Anila Duro was elected Vice-President, Mr. Muhammad U. Faridi was elected Treasurer, and Mr. Riaz Khan was elected Secretary of the club. However, Uros Andrejevic who has now graduated John Jay College, had been UNSA's President for the previous three years. As required by the John Jay College Charter of Student Activities, all student clubs must have a Faculty Advisor who oversees all club activities and events. Since UNSA's establishment, Professor George Andreopoulos has been its Faculty Advisor and has made an outstanding effort in helping the club prepare for the NMUN Conference and plan events and lectures. Professor Andreopoulos, however, is on sabbatical for the 2003-2004 academic year. UNSA has also found help from Professor Desmond Arias, Professor Jacque Fomerand, and Professor Khan, who will be helping UNSA at the 2004 NMUN Conference.
