Astronomy Basics

A solar filament above the surface of the sun

This page began as an assignment for one of my graduate education classes. I have a BS in Physics and Astronomy and currently I am  working on my MEd at the Ohio State University. I hope to teach high school physics and astronomy. On this set of pages you will find basic information about some of the bigger astronomy topics that interest me, along with links to take you to more detailed information. There are also some links below to some of the best astronomy sites on the web.

The picture above is a solar filament. The horizon in the background is the limb of the sun. The filament is about 100,000 km in height.
