i haven't updated this page since '03, when i gave props to the book 'syrup.' since then at least a few of my friends have read syrup and really liked it, which made me happy. :) i hope that in updating this page, maybe someone will go see or later rent the movie "head-on" (gegen die wand) so they can tell me how much they liked it and i will be made happy yet again...

Don't let the happy wedding photo below fool you, Gegen Die Wand ('Head-On' in the U.S.) is not a mellow, clean, smiley, touchy-feely flick. It's a crazy turkish movie which demonstrates how f'd up life can be and contains the best scene in a movie i've witnessed in a long time (it happens when the 2 main characters first go to a bar). I really can't put to words just how weird / good / wrenching this movie was w/o getting into plot or anything, and I think it's best to just take my word on this: go see it. Oh and if you're a guy, and into that kind of thing, Sibel used to be a porn star and there are some pretty graphic sex scenes in this... But that's not what makes this movie so good, it's so good b/c watching it, you really feel like you're getting a glimpse of these two people's lives. I'm not alone in praising this movie.
