Life goes on ...
Over the last month and a half we have been mourning the loss of Jenie's father. For each person the grieving process can take various amounts of time and this is something that we are facing everyday. Being so far away has it advantages and disadvantages at times like these. At times it doesn't hit you at all, then at other time it's like a ton of bricks falling down on you, and you just sit there asking 'what just happened? Is he really gone?'

From mourning to celebration - 2 weeks ago my appachen (mom's father) celebrated his 94th birthday. Aside from having to move around with a walker and not being able to hear all that well - he's doing great. Mya talked to 'Veliappcha' on the phone for a bit and interestingly had no problems in getting her message across while I found my self yelling so he could hear me. We're really praying that we'll be able to make a trip over soon to spend some time with him. If it wasn't for his bad leg he probably could still make a trip over here. Additional celebrations for my cousin Asha and her husband Shibu on the birth of their baby girl - Hannah. Can't wait to visit Dallas and meet the newest addition to the family. Blessings to you both.

Can you believe this?
I find this unbelievable - SI.com posted an article on the 10 Greatest Sports Songs and number 2 was given to ... O Canada!!! I'm thinking that this must be a joke but there it is. Sports Illustrated actually put Canada's national anthem ahead of their own. The only thing I can think of is that the broadcast of Paul Lorieau singing here in Edmonton during the playoffs and then handing off to the crowd half way through made a bigger impression that some of us thought. Wow!

Superman ... again
In early August I finally went and saw Superman Returns and I'd have to say that it was ... ok. Special FX and all were unreal - especially since I saw it in 3D-IMAX - WOW! but story wise ... all I can say is that it had it's moments. Bryan Singer certainly paid homage to Richard Donner and the original Superman and did not copy or re-do what was already accomplished, however it tended to drag out in certain spots. I've read that there is uncertainty surrounding a sequel - one can certainly hope. Richard Donner in the mean time is keeping busy - he's actually co-writing Action Comics and as a result has generated some anticipation surrounding the next few months for this title. EW.com posted a preview of the first issue and it certainly looks interesting. Additionally as I mentioned before, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut is coming out in November and that is certainly something to watch for. This is the movie that was oroginally shot by Donner before he was fired. Should prove interesting as there were significant differences in story.

No pictures this month - as you can imagine, picture taking has not been at the top of our list of things to do the last couple of months. Hopefully next post I'll have some to share.

later,
Manoj
