FAMILY ARRIVES -BIG SURPRISE
BALI: Saturday September 30 was Jamal’s 34th Birthday. Planning was started weeks before when Jamal’s family were secretly invited to come to Bali for the celebrations. The plan  was successful and remained a secret until the family arrived at 5pm on Friday the 29th .  When they arrived Jamal couldn’t believe  his eyes.

Travelling the 1000 kms/ 26 hours by bus from Bandung were; Amih (Jamal’s 68 year old Mother), 3 of Jamal’s sisters, Teteh, Lina and Lis along with Lis’ husband and younger son. After   the arrival we all adjourned to Peter’s “No Name” restaurant for  a meal and celebration. They will return to Bandung on Saturday October 7
BANDUNG
Jamal's home town, at 750m (2460ft) above sea level, Bandung is the cool and comfortable capital of West Java. It's an unhurried place (despite being the third largest city in Indonesia) which makes it a welcome respite from the din and bustle of Jakarta. The majority of the population are the native Sundanese from west Java, who not only have a reputation as extroverted, easy-going people compared with the extremely refined Javanese, but also as zealous guardians of their own ancient culture. So if you want to mix it up with the locals and have an interest in Sundanese culture, Bandung is the place to go. Its other main attractions are the superb surrounding countryside, the famous Tangkuban Prahu volcano, numerous river walks and its faded art deco grandeur. Rowdy ram-butting fights are held in the northern suburb of Cilimus and can be quite an experience for anyone who's not a fully paid up member of the RSPCA. If a ram gets dizzy from all the head-butting, the owner tweaks its testicles to clear its head.
Thanks to

ROCHELLE & JENNY VISIT THE KHO
BALI: Two weeks ago we had the pleasure of visitors from Melbourne,  Rochelle Setza and Jenny Dumigan.  It was their first trip to Bali and they stayed in the very swank Grand Mirage in Nusa Dua. They both loved Bali and plan to return again. Whilst in Bali we had the pleasure of their company for a State Dinner at the KHO.
John, Rochelle, Deni, Jenny & Peter - Jamal camera

Farewell to the KHO - Jamal, Jenny, Ibu Min (servant from next door),
Deni, Rochelle, John
Rochelle (an old friend of John's) and Jenny (Rochelle's friend) presented John and Jamal with a vintage bottle of red wine, which was drunk in great haste – whilst savoring the flavor of course! Jenny was celebrating her birthday, so the fake birthday cake made yet another appearence. Peter who  runs a restaurent in Bali also attended.
HAIRY DOG STORY
Our friend Dewa Bagong outside the KHO.
Dewa Bagong is from Bangli in central Bali, he works in a hardware store in Denpasar. The dog in the background has adopted us as her home. Jamal has called her "Tinni" 2 months ago “Tinni” gave berth to 3 puppies, 2 were taken by locals (we hope not to eat). The other was run over by hit and run driver in our street. “Tinni” was in very bad condition with barely no hair at all until Jamal started feeding her. Now she is looking quite healthy.

GARDEN GETS NEW TREE
The rather small 2.5 meter x 3 meter front garden is now sporting an ancient Kemboja tree. The tree was installed by 5 workers from the local nursery.  Jamal supervised it’s placement. The tree is now complete with fairy lights.
