NANCE SENDS TELEGRAM
The Royal telegramwas sent from Leongatha with great difficulty to the Queen Mother's homeClarence House in London. As you know Australia Post no longer acceptstelegrams. So Nance had her son John send the telegram from Indonesia wherethey still use the telegraphic system. Clever Nance!
LONDON FRI: Queen Elizabeththe Queen Mother turned 100 today, She was so excited to receive a specialtelegram from Nance. She is especially happy with the pearls Nance sent"I have always loved pearls" the Queen Mother said "I have many pearlsin my collection but these are the first I have ever had from Lombok, theyare so unusual, all my pearls are perfectly round, but these are all shapes.By the way my dear, where in the Empire is Lombok
 LOMBOK AFTERMATH
This is all that is left of the Ampenan CatholicChurch after the 3 day riot in Lombok. The Church will be rebuilt. Mostof the damage throughout Lombok has been repaired, with only the odd gutteredbuilding obvious. Although the trouble was last January the tourism numbershave fallen dramatically. Lombok is now perfectly safe to visit with mosthotel offering excellent discounts.
NANCE MEETS HERMAN'S MUM & DAD
After many many years Nance finally met withHerman's parents in Lombok. Herman's parents fled January riots to theirdaughters house in Denpasar, Bali, after their house was trashed by therioters. Renovations have now completed and Herman's parents moved homea month ago. Herman was down form Jakarta to visit them, whilst his sistersand brothers kids were on annual school holidays.
PAINTING THE TOWN
LOMBOK: During her visit, Nance droppedin on Andi's Mum for a cup of tea and some nice cake. Everyone in Lombokis painting their house in blue and white. The idea is to cheer everyoneup. Blue was chosen because it is the colour of the sea. Nance John andAmang attended a lunch given in Nance's honour at Andi's Mums House. Theirson, Andi is an old friend of John's and lives in Surabaya with his wifeand baby son

 NANCE MEETS THE NATIVES
LOMBOK: Whilst on her endless pursuit ofpearls in Lombok Nance discovered some goat farmers. Nance told them howshe had worked tirelessly on a farm too. Nance's taxi can be seen waitingin the background.

The week started last Sunday with the usual phonecall from Nance to check the publishing deadline of the KHO News. Off to Melody's for dinner where we met a nice couple, John and Lynn (intheir 50's  from Perth) They had arrived on Saturday and wasted mostof Sunday being carted around by a nice man who showed them lots of Villas. It took till later in the afternoon to realize the people were trying tosell them a timeshare scam. Timeshare is illegal in Bali, howeverthe unsuspecting tourists usually don't know this. They were drowning theirsorrows and
celebrating a near miss. They joined us for dinner.
We invited them to join us for Party Time on Wednesdaynight. Monday Pak Made (the builder) arrived to install our newemergency 500-liter water tank on the roof. We spent 2 hours at the hardwarestore trying to figure our what fittings we would need. 3 visits laterand at the end of the day the tank was installed and working. I then repaintedthe back laundry area where
most of the plumbing was

installed. Wednesday evening off to Melody's for PartyNight. Everything was fine until just before the show we realized thePA amp had blown up. Fortunately I had an adapter so I could plug my microphoneinto one of the guitar amps. So the show went on. Good crowd, good reaction.
When will he ever give up?
Thursday we nursed a hang- over, crook red wine no less. Friday off for the weekly trip to the supermarket, cooked a delicious beef casserole for dinner.

DEWA
Dewa our good friend dropped in andenjoyed dinner with us. Yesterday morning we had the Perth
tourist couple over for morning tea. They likedJamal's paintings and the house.
After they left Jamal and I went to lunch at thenew "elcheapo" which is called "Tanpa Nama" or according to Peter the owner"No Name" which is not quite right because Tanpa Nama actually translatesas "Without Name" but we won't quibble about that.
I had baked beans and bacon on toast, nice chancefrom the chinese food.
After lunch we had a nap.
Around 6pm the local Bakso (meatball soup) seller turnedup, he gave me a quick
massage. Said he would come back Sunday morningand give me a full one. No cracks!
8pm a girlfriend of Jamal's who has married a young Dutchguy came over we then went to dinner in Padma Club then on to Jaya Pubuntil 3 am. Drank too much beer. The couple live in Holland and the guyruns his dad's IT business, obviously not short of a $. They will joinus for party night next Wednesday.
Woke Sunday morning at 10.30 when "the massage" turnedup early. Certainly a massage is an excellent hangover cure.
I have booked him for next Thursday morning, becauseI usually have a hangover after Party Night.
......
We would to thank Mr Ian Davey for the use of the "SocialJottings" title.

Paul's Mother in Hospital

Denny reports his car has still not been returnedfrom the repairers. Meanwhile he must tram it to work. They are still waitingon the heater shaft - whatever that is - for the car" From Denny.
STOP PRESS: " Maybe Monday.".....Stewartin London received an email from Stuart this week. Stuartand Sam are fine. Stuarts Dad has been visiting and they took him to seethe "sights" of Amsterdam. Stuart will be in Melbourne for Christmas. Ianand Mandy mailed in this week, the family are all fine, although Ian's band is a little quiet due to the winter season. Maybe youwould liketo book them for your next function. IanDavey, Our dinner last night at The Melbourne Club tocelebrate HM The Queen Mum's 100th was an outstanding success. A wonderfulnight had by all. Kenneth did a brilliant speech on The Queen Mum. We started will Pink Gins and Singapore Gin Slings. Kenneth managed to get a dozen Penfolds Bin 389 which is Her Majesties favourite tipple. We were very lucky to get those. Scarce as

hens teeth that lot. We finished up about12:15, a great night had by all. I have not drunk so much in a long timeand you will be sad to know I did not disgrace myself at all. Felt fabulousthis morning. No after effects at all.  Geoff Currey Haveloved your 'Nance does Bali' reports - so much more entertaining than thepo-faced crowd from 60 Minutes who all seem to take themselves SOooo seriously. What a pity Mega's over- zealous security minders prevented her meetingNance. I am sure that tensions between Indonesia and Australia could havebeen cleared up over a nice cup of tea in no time.
Geoff White, Nance's photo essay on the KHO was superb! You should take a leaf out of her book and show us a bit more in episodesto come. I think the front garden is great, the whole place is very niceI think, so let us see more. Clive of England, Loved the pic of your mum, she looks a happy person, especially liked the quipadded from Melody! HaHa. ... Herman, Nini and I are doing fine. Last Sunday we had a small reunion among friends whowent to Griffith Uni in Brisbane. It was fun as most of them now are marriedand having babies/kids.
