BOMB BLAST
AT JAKARTA
STOCK
EXCHANGE
Wednesday Sept 13
a bomb went of in the Jakarta Stock Exchange building where Herman works.
It is believed the bomb was set off by pro-Soeharto followers to try and
scare the government into cancelling Soeharto's trial. Herman reports
from the scene: Yes I survived the bomb! I am OK and also my car. When
the bomb blew up, I was in the office on the 11th floor. We did not think
that the impacts were as great as what it turned out to be. When everybody
evacuated the building, we just saw that smoke coming out of the
parking lot at the
basement. Fortunately, people were quite calm under the situation. I was
waiting outside the building until around 6.30 PM hoping that I
could take out my
car from the parking lot that evening. However, given that the
smoke was still quite
strong coming out of the basement plus my car was parked
quite in the centre
of the car park, I then decided to go home and came back the
next morning. At around
9 AM the next morning, I managed to get my car out. |
HERMAN
Luckily, the car is fine
only becoming darker due to the smoke. I was lucky that
I parked my car at
P1 level whilst as you may have heard the bomb blew up at P2
level (1 level down
from P1). Some of my friends' cars however were damaged
(especially those
who parked their cars at P2). It was also very sad that one of the bank's
drivers died in the incident. Altogether 10 people are reported dead
with more than 30
were wounded. In addition, over 80 cars were damaged in the
bomb blast. The latest
bomb attack at the stock exchange building clearly showed
that the government
failed to control the armed forces who would continue to play a significant
role in Indonesian politics. I am not sure whether the measures taken by
Gus Dur following the bomb blast would actually effective to avoid further
bomb explosion in the capital city. |

 |
SURABAYA JAVA: Friend
Yong Fu has just opened a new travel Agency. It is called Karmel Tour &
Travel. Yong Fu is flat out renovating the shop for the grand opening on
Oct 2. He has bought a new Pentium III 550 computer. (So much bigger
than the bunker oil powered model at the KHO. Well we all know size
is not that important.) He has applied for an “On Line Reservation”
chip which will give him access to the airline booking system via the internet.
Good luck Yong Fu. Yong Fu explains why? the name Karmel “Karmel
actually is nobody ,just the name, from Carmel (in the bible means prosperous
land) We wish Young Fu the best of luck. So if you just want to book a
ticket or just wish Yong Fu good luck you can contact him at [email protected]

IPTN
INDONESIA
Believe it or not Indonesia
has an Aircraft Industry. The company know as IPTN is based in Jamal's
hometown of Bandung. The company produces the CASA 212 and 235 aircraft
in association with CASA Spain.
CASA 235
Military Version
The company 100% owned by the
Indonesian Government has had all its funding cut, as required by the IMF.
The company is desperately trying to survive and now produces household
good to try and survive. The CASA 235 is used by many Indonesian
airlines on island hopping flights. It is a simple aircraft with no pressurization
& 2 General Electric prop jets. The Aircraft seats 30 people or carries
a vehicle via it's back drop down loading ramp. It's excellent short field
performance is ideal for "bush" strips.

BREAK A LEG
The tourists are here
again. Melody's packed out for the big Wednesday event.
The garden is now
sporting a 4 meter high Kamboja tree.
Tuesday morning a
truck, 5 workers and the tree turned up. The garden was massacred and a
huge hole dug, the tree was then man handled over the fence and on
into the hole.

team ie: Jamal, then directed which way the tree should face. The poor

tree this way and that
until we all agreed and Jamal gave his blessing. I doubt if the poor tree
has any roots left. Photos in next edition of the KHO news. |

space waitress. Edith you met at 'Boy From Oz'. Steve is the triathlete
guy I work with that waters my plants and I am accused of turning into
a techno addict, and Joseph is a 21 year old graduate nurse (he is) and
he really is a nice guy and wants to take over this place if I move to
Brisbane. Printed out your schedule. It is not a bother you staying. Looks
like I will not see you at Christmas. GEOFF W.I have just returned
from a couple of days in Melb. looking for a bigger sewing machine, have
found a couple of second hand ones, AWESOME, sew through anything you like,
up to 8 mm long stitches, just
what I need for my
new canopy and covers business.
I have 2 jobs in the
pipeline, one of them quite a big effort, a bigger machine will be most
helpful.
Sue is very well as
am I. |
ROCHELLE Back
at work today. A thousand "thank you's" once again for your FANTASTIC hospitality
last week. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and am only sorry we
couldn't make it to Melodys on the Wednesday night.
It was great to catch up with Jamal and meet Deni - and your spag. bol.
was divine. And how great to have the recipe in this week's edition
of the newsletter! I really loved Bali and can't wait to come back again.
The people are so friendly and happy - it really makes you think abou the
way we live here - always worrying about money, getting stressed out over
every little thing - and they have no money and are still very happy.
Just proves that money really doesn't bring you happiness. BEAR
Hello Ausindons. Is everything lovely at the KHO. (Of course I know the
answer from the newsletter - very nice in HTML.) I am still alive. Hope
you are the same. GEORGE The newsletters
just get better and better and better, a bit like you really. Actually
your e-mails make me want to go there more and more, I can't
even afford to go to Sydney because I stopped working
at the Z-Bar and haven't picked up another job. IAN D. I had the
van into the garage again today just to get some loose ends fixed up that
were not done at the service. The van like its owner has had most things
replaced as we are getting a bit long in the tooth. [275,000kms] DENNY
IN BRISBANE Just registered to work up here. But they seem to
take ages to pay you here
and the pay is a bit less than in Melbourne. Going to
look at a unit shortly - at least accom is a lot less here. As well
as petrol! Weather is about 28 everyday and down to 15
at night. Nice weather! |
