MARGARET: I can sign the President's name. I have his signature down pretty good. LEO: You can sign the President's name? MARGARET: Yeah. LEO: On a document removing him from power and handing it to someone else? MARGARET: Yeah! [on Leo's look of disbelief] Or... do you think the White House Counsel would say that was a bad idea? LEO: I think the White House Counsel would say it was a coup d'etat! In The Shadow of Two Gunmen II (2000) This is my favorite series. It started off with one story and ended up as something quite different. The first fifteen stories focus on the grumpy Communications Director and the quirky Assistant to the Chief of Staff. It begins with Margaret having a little fun at Toby's expense and sees them facing up to the complexities of relationships, culminating in a New Year's Eve to remember. In addition to the Margaret and Toby stories there are a series of stories following the budding relationship of Sam and Ellie. We see how they find each other and how the years take their toll on their relationship. Another thread to the series is the Leo/Carol dynamic from the first tentative steps to their marriage and finally their bid for a family. And I threw in a short Josh and Donna fluff. Finally, in the same universe we have a trilogy of stories. There is a death in the family and one couple struggle to come to terms with starting a new relationship. "A Full Lid And A Block Of Cheese" hopefully brings the series to a happy conclusion.
