Sports
    Kho-Kho

I can't remember how I started playing Kho-Kho. However, it was introduced to me during school years. During our P.T. (Physical Training) period we had to play some game & I think that all the girls played Kho-Kho and the guys went for football or cricket. I was quite young when I started out and I must have enjoyed it at that stage enough to continue on with it. What I remember clearly is when it actually got to any sort of serious level.

We would go for practice during all the lunch breaks. I wasn't the best player but I can proudly say that I was one of the best. I participated in several competitions ranging from inter-section, inter-class, to inter-school. The highest level at which I played was inter-district (Ghaziabad, I think it was!). Two of my friends even went to play it at the inter-state level.

I found Kho-Kho to be fast-paced and extremely energetic, which is what attracted me to it. Plus, I enjoyed being in a team sport. Whenever our team players were playing we would always cheer up for them. This charged up the atmosphere and I found this was especially helpful when I was under a lot of pressure. I couldn't see my friends but could hear them encouraging me. It created a positive enviornment, was quite inspiring and must have made a difference.

The main problem that I found was lack of recognition in the sport. Even within our school we were never given any sort of serious recognition, and by serious I mean something in writing, like a certificate. This could be linked to the fact that it's not a well-known sports. But I don't understand why my school didn't take some initiative and consider encouraging the players and the team.

Using a few search engines I searched for any description regarding Kho-Kho, but in vain. I found the following information copied on several pages so I don't know the original source for this. So, I would have to commend the original author.

    Track & Field

Because of Kho-Kho, I developed an interest in sports, in general. It had already helped me build up stamina. So, I also got involved in various races like 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m relay, sprints, marathons. I also tried basket-ball but I didn't give it enough practice to be able to develop some serious interest in it.

    Badminton

My neighbours and friends on the street (or gali) used to play Badminton in the evenings. It was again a lot of fun. I am an armateur in this area. We played singles or doubles - depending on how many people were available to play.
