     John was born at Charles County, Maryland, circa 1745. He was the son of Leonard Clements , Sr..2 He married Anna Hamilton at Charles County, Maryland, circa 1783. At the time of his will, which was dated 16 Nov 1803, John had fifteen negroes. He left ten of them to his sons Leonard, John R., George and daughters Polly, Henrietta, Eliza, Bettey, Creecy and to his daughter Anna's children (no names were given) at her death. The remaining five and their increase were to be divided between Anna and Creecy excepted when Creecy reached the age of 16. The remainder of his plantation was to remain intact until Creecy became 16. John Clements left a will on 16 November 1803 at Nelson County, Kentucky, In the name of God amen. I John Clements of the county of Nelson and State of Kentucky being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God calling unto men the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, that is to say, principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of the Almighty God that gave it to me and my body I recommend to earth, to be buried in decent Christian burial: nothing doubting, but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again, by the mighty power of god and a touching such worldly estates where with it has pleased god to bless me in this life, I give devise and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form as a consideration to my Children for their love to me ---------------
First I give to my well beloved son Leonard Clements a negro boy by the name Samuel and twenty Dollars in Cash. Also I bequeath to my dear daughter Anna's Children at her death one negro boy by the name of Moses & likewise one Negro girl distinguished by the name Charity with one Evelain (?) -- Likewise to my son John R. a negro boy the name of Frederick also a horse distinguished by the name of Hornet ---
To my daughter Polly I give a negro boy by the name of Joseph. Also to Henrietta, my daughter a negro Girl by the name of Lucy -- Likewise to my daughter Eliza a negro Girl by the name of Jane. To Bettey another of my daughters I bequeath a Negro girl by the name of Milly ---- And to my son George I also bequeath a Negro boy by the name of Isaac --- Also to my last daughter Creecy I bestow a negro woman by the name of Nanny ---
There is still five negroes remaining in my Estate which with their increase is to be divided among my Children Anny & Creecy excepted when said Creecy shall have attained to the age of sixteen --- All my horses except hornet is to remain on the plantation until my youngest daughter shall arrive to the above mentioned age --- All the rest of my property is to remain on the plantation until said Creecy shall arrive to the aforesaid age and then to be equally divided among my Children------

In it he names seven children; Leonard, Joseph, Jr., Clement, Walter, Elizabeth WHEELER , Charity DETESZIER and grand children Ann CLEMENTS and Matthew SANDERS. He owned tracts of land called Clements Town and Clements Town Enlarged. Joseph Clements left a will on 18 February 1762 at Charles County, Maryland, In the name of God Amen I Joseph Clements of Charles County being in perfect mind and memory Thanks be to Almighty God. Calling to mind the uncertainty of this world and being willing to settle my affairs in time do make & ordain this my Last will and Testament. In manner and form following ______.
