![]() When Bess was about 16 the family moved from Kentucky to Jonesboro, Craighesd County, Arkansas. Her sister Carrie recalls that they came in horse and wagon and crossed the Ohio River on a ferry in about 1909. After high school, Bess attended the State Agricultural School in Jonesboro, where she studied Home Economics. She was graduated in a small class and went into teaching after graduation. The school has since become Arkansas State University. After teaching for awhile, Bess accepted a job as a Home Demonstration Agent in Magnolia, Arkansas. It was there that she met her future husband. They were married in Magnolia and lived there for about five years before moving to Orlando, Florida. Both of their daughters were born in Magnolia. After the death of Woodford in 1950, Bess remained in Orlando until about 1957. She then sold her home and from then until her death in 1979 lived in the same city, or close by, with one or the other of her two daughters. At her death she was living in a duplex at the Baptist Buckner complex in Dallas, near Corinne and her family . Bess was a proud, self reliant woman of the old southern tradition. She loved sewing and decorating and showed talent in painting. She graduated from high school at Jonesboro, Craighead County, Arkansas, on 3 May 1917. School: (an unknown value). Anna Bess Clements was Baptist. She married Woodford Ransom Smith at Central Baptist Church, Magnolia, Columbia County, Arkansas, on 16 April 1920. Rev. J. H. Coleman performed the ceremony..2 Anna died on 10 February 1979 at East Town Osteopathic Hospital, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, at age 86.3 She was buried on 13 February 1979 at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas; The Rev.
