Anna Bess Clements (F)

     Anna was born at Walnut Bottom, Henderson County, Kentucky, on 25 April 1892. She was the daughter of Lloyd William Clements and Cora Sandefur.1 Bess was born at Walnut Bottom in Henderson County, Kentucky. It is located close to Geneva. She loved Kentucky and had a happy childhood there. She frequently recounted to the family how beautiful Kentucky was and of the wonderful horses that were bred there.
When Bess was about 16 the family moved from Kentucky to Jonesboro, Craighesd County, Arkansas. Her sister Carrie recalls that they came in horse and wagon and crossed the Ohio River on a ferry in about 1909. After high school, Bess attended the State Agricultural School in Jonesboro, where she studied Home Economics. She was graduated in a small class and went into teaching after graduation. The school has since become Arkansas State University.
After teaching for awhile, Bess accepted a job as a Home Demonstration Agent in Magnolia, Arkansas. It was there that she met her future husband. They were married in Magnolia and lived there for about five years before moving to Orlando, Florida. Both of their daughters were born in Magnolia.
After the death of Woodford in 1950, Bess remained in Orlando until about 1957. She then sold her home and from then until her death in 1979 lived in the same city, or close by, with one or the other of her two daughters. At her death she was living in a duplex at the Baptist Buckner complex in Dallas, near Corinne and her family .
Bess was a proud, self reliant woman of the old southern tradition. She loved sewing and decorating and showed talent in painting. She graduated from high school at Jonesboro, Craighead County, Arkansas, on 3 May 1917. School: (an unknown value). Anna Bess Clements was Baptist. She married Woodford Ransom Smith at Central Baptist Church, Magnolia, Columbia County, Arkansas, on 16 April 1920. Rev. J. H. Coleman performed the ceremony..2 Anna died on 10 February 1979 at East Town Osteopathic Hospital, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, at age 86.3 She was buried on 13 February 1979 at Restland Cemetery, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas; The Rev. Roy Harrell officiated.3

PARROTT for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear for my daughter Anna Loyd CLEMENTS, wife of Wm. F. CLEMENTS and for the further consideration of one dollar in hand paid have sold and by these presents doth convey unto the said A. L. CLEMENTS, a certain lot of property. To Wit one sorrel aged ten years, twenty six shoals aged from three to six months old, one ox press waggon, one Straw cutter, two cultivators, two plows harrow and two bedsteads and bedding. To have and to hold the Said property together with it's increase unto the only proper use, benefit and behalf of the said A. L. CLEMENTS - her heirs or assigns free from all claims against Wm. F. CLEMENTS - Her husband the title to which I will warrant and defend unto her the Said A. L. CLEMENTS - forever in Testimony where of I have here to set my hand this 6th March 1873."
Eliza was born at Washington County, Kentucky, on 27 September 1827.2 She was the daughter of George R. Clements and Ann Hamilton. She married Nicholas Loyd Clements at Washington County, Kentucky, on 6 October 1843.3 She married George Washington Parrott at Washington County, Kentucky, on 3 February 1846.4 Eliza was listed as a household member living with an unknown person on the 1850 Census at Springfield, Washington County, Kentucky.5 She was census 1860 - free in 1860. Eliza died on 6 April 1893 at Washington County, Kentucky, at age 65.6
