     Samuel and Elizabeth BUGG removed from Mecklenburg County, Virginia to Henderson County, Kentucky ca. 1808. Samuel first appeared on the Henderson County Taxable Property Tax List on 20 Jun 1809. By that date they had quit counting white males over 16, but we note that in 1818 a Samuel BUGG, Jr. appeared on the tax list and in 1819 a James BUGG was on the tax list. A J. D. BUGG was witness to the will of Bennet SANDEFUR which was written in 1840. It is thought that this was James son of Samuel and Elizabeth.
Samuel, Sr. was on the tax list for 1818, but not on the 1819 list, instead Elizabeth was listed. This indicates his death as being ca. 1819. At the time of his death, he was being taxed for 375 acres on Canoe Creek, 4 black males over 16, 10 total blacks and 3 horses. . Samuel was born at Mecklenburg County, Virginia, circa 1765. He married Elizabeth Bilbo at Mecklenburg County, Virginia, on 25 March 1794. Bennet Sandefur surety..1 A census listed Samuel as head of household at Henderson County, Kentucky, in 1810.2 Samuel died circa 1819 at Henderson County, Kentucky.
