John P. removed from Mecklenburg County, Virginia to Mercer County, Kentucky about 1799 and then on to Henderson County, ca. 1800. He appeared on the tax lists there from 4 Jun 1801 through Jul 1810. He never was taxed for acreage and in 1802 was taxed for a town lot. He was sheriff of Henderson, which was at that time was also present day Hopkins and Union counties. In the years 1801, 1802, 1803 and 1804 he had a white male over 16. There are no tax records for 1805, 6 and 7 and by 1808 they quit counting white males over 16, therefore it is not known when this son turned 21 as he never appeared on a tax list. Perhaps he moved over to Mercer County, there were a number of Bilbos there in the 1800, 1810 and 1820 censuses.
John P. did not appear on the tax lists of Henderson County after 1810. In 1811, John brought a civil suit against his brother in law, Bennet SANDEFUR over some items that were charged to his account at Ingram's store. We know that he was still in Henderson on 18 Jan 1812 as he asked questions of Nancy GRADY and John SANDEFUR, children of Bennet. The depositions brought out the fact that John had come to Kentucky with Bennet and his family and in fact lived with them for several years. Perhaps it was after this falling out that John moved on to Warren County, NC where he remarried in 1818.
