Citations David M. Bullock1 (M) b. 1787, d. 16 June 1857 A William and David BULLOCK came to what later became Pike County Mississippi in 1812. They settled along the Bogue Chitto and Clear Creek.2 James and David BULLOCK signed A Petition to Congress by Inhabitants of Marion and Lawrence Counties Mississippi. This petition was dated 19 Jan 1815.
The next record located of David BULLOCK was when he and Susannah MANNING were married in Marion county, Mississippi on 27 Feb 1814. David BULLOCK was enumeratated in the 1830 census of Yazoo County, Mississippi. This David and his family match up quite well with the ages that he and Susannah would have been at that time, plus the females match up with the ages of Ann and Martha and there were other females whose names are not known. There was six years difference between Anne and Martha, therefore there could have been others who did not live very long. In addition, the males match up with the age Jesse T. would have been at that time plus there was a male age 5-10 whose name is not known. There was a seven year gap between the birth date of Martha and the next known child, Mary G., therefore there must have been other children born who did not live. Also, there was both a male and a female with them in this census who were in the 20-30 age range. Their relationship to Susannah & David is not known. David was listed on the Personal Tax Rolls of Yazoo County in the years 1827, 1828, 1830 and 1832.3 The next record of David was 24 Jan 1833 when he purchased 80 acres in Yazoo County from James and Margaret FLETCHER for $250.4 This land was in that part of Yazoo that became Holmes County later that same year. David must have sold this property for on 12 Feb 1835 he again purchased this same parcel from Joseph & Christean MORRIS for $2,525.5 There was a David BULLOCK who entered the Republic of Texas, at Nacogdoches, on 9 Dec 1834 with his wife and three children. It is thought that because of this man our David began to use the middle initial of M. David M. served in the army of Texas from 5 Mar 1836 to 5 Jun 1836. He was in the memorable Battle of San Jacinto on 21 Apr 1836. He was next located in the First Settlers of the Republic of Texas Volume II 6as having a headright land grant of 1/3 league in Montgomery County that was reported as genuine and legal by the travelling commissioners in January 1840. He was also enumerated in the 1840 census of Montgomery County, Republic of Texas.7 Next David received grant no. 14 of 640 acres of Donation Land on 5 May 1846 for participating in the Battle of San Jacinto. 453 acres were patented to him in Shackleford county on 7 Sep 1861 and 187 acres were patented to him in Young county on 28 Jan 1858. Both of which came after his death. His service record no. 1627, was signed by Job S. COLLARD, first lieutenant of company D, second regiment of Texas volunteers, and countersigned by Sidney SHERMAN , colonel, reads: "Camp Warloupe (Guadalupe) June 5, 1836. "This is to certify that M. BULLOCK has served in the volunteer army of Texas from the 5th day of March 1836 to the date above written. That he was in the Memorable Battle of San Jacinto April 21, 1836 and there as well as at all other times discharged his duty with faith to Texas and honour to himself; and is this day honorably discharged." Their youngest child John Martin Van Buren BULLOCK said that he was born in Mississippi on 1 Aug 1836. Most likely Susannah and their children did not come to Texas until after that date. David was a surveyor in Montgomery County as early as March 1841 and as late as 4 Jun 1844. David M. BULLOCK of Montgomery county sold property in Liberty county to Joseph RHODES on 9 Apr 1846 for $60.8 A writ of execution was issued on 29 May 1846 to the constable for Beat 11, Montgomery County to seize the property of David and sell it for a debt of $33.54 & $2.00 costs. The property was sold 1 Jun 1846 at public auction at the Court House. The property was 400 acres part of David's headright survey. David probably had already removed to San Augustine County during this period of April/May 1846. David paid a poll tax in San Augustine County in 1846. He and his family were enumerated in the 1850 census of San Augustine county. He died in San Augustine county in 1857 and, his son, Jesse T. BULLOCK was appointed administrator of his estate. The county court January Term 1859, Vol. D, p. 105, records that Susannah received $450 and the wife of Ransom SOWELL $75, the wife of Daniel SMITH $75, the wife of E. M. WEEKS $75, and to John M. V. BULLOCK $75 and to Jesse T. BULLOCK $75 and to the heirs of Henry HUNT whose mother was a daughter of David BULLOCK $75, "all of the above named heirs of David BULLOCK deceased." David was born at North Carolina, in 1787.9 He married Susannah Manning at Marion County, Mississippi, on 27 February 1814.1 David was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census at Yazoo County, Mississippi. There is one male 5 to 10 & one 20 to 30, one female 5 to 10, under 10 and one 20 to 30 who have not been identified. He also had 2 slaves. There was also an L. Bullock, age 30 to 40, with his family and an Elizabeth Bullock, age 20 to 40, with her family in the census of Yazoo..10 A census listed David as head of household at Montgomery County, Republic of Texas, in 1840.11 David was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census at San Augustine County, Texas.12,9 David died on 16 June 1857 at San Augustine County, Texas.13 David's will was probated at San Augustine County, Texas, on 28 October 1857.14
