Blast-Off was recruited by Leland McCauley to join his Work Force immediately following his rejection for Legion membership during their first member-ship drive. When President Brande requested aid from post-human beings to join the battle against the dark sorceror Mordru, Blast-Off went against McCauley's orders and joined the heroes, but was caught in a mystical blast from Mordru and killed. Much later, the Legion found that Blast-Off's consciousness had survived the death of his body along with that of the Uncanny Amazer, Atom'X, who was also killed by Mordru. The two spirits were joined into one energy form and became the Legionnaire now known as Wildfire. Blast-Off had the ability to propel his body like a rocket.

Atom'X was a member of Xanthu's super-team, the Amazers. When President Brande requested the aid of post-human beings in the battle against Mordru, the Xanthu government sent him, Kid Quantum II and Monstress to help. In an effort to impress the Legionnaire Kinetix, Atom'x attacked Mordru and was killed by a combined blast from Mordru and the Emerald Eye, after which Mordru absorbed his escaping energies to empower himself. Much later, the Legion found that Atom'x's consciousness had survived his body's death along with that of Blast-Off, who was also killed by Mordru. The two disembodied spirits were joined into one energy form and became the Legionnaire now known as Wildfire. Atom'X could fire energy blasts, fly and phase through objects.
