Coexisting symptoms depend upon the degree of fever, age, underlying disease and coexisting other medical illnesses. They are often complicated by side effects and reactions of medication used in treatment.

  1. In viral fevers cough, cold, sneezing, watering from eyes, head ache, body ache, shivering are noted along with fever.

  2. In malaria high fever with intense chills and rigors and perspiration are typical features.

  3. In typhoid 'Step ladder' increase of fever, cough, loose stools, weakness, head ache, loss of appetite, intestinal bleeding etc. are seen.

  4. In bacillary dysentery, fever with chills accompanied by stools with blood and mucus is most frequent finding.

  5. In urinary tract infection, fever with chills with increased frequency of urination, often accompanied by burning during micturition is seen.

  6. In viral hepatitis after few days of fever, the yellowness in eye is noted along with dark coloured urine and clay coloured stools.

  7. Convulsions or fits can occur in kids due to fever itself known as febrile seizures or due to underlying cause as in meningitis and other brain fevers.

  8. Delirium is a confusional state caused due to very high fever with patient becoming confused, over talkative, speech becoming incoherent.
