It's not the size of the saber that counts, but how you use it.

So you've got yourself a lightsaber, want to know how to swing it? Here are the three moves that can help your fighting style.

Stances

There are three stances you can use with your lightsaber. Let's explore these first.

The blue stance, also known as light or defensive stance, is best at blocking an opponent's saber from slicing your ear off. The great thing about this stance is that not only can you block well, but it also has the fastest swing. So while your opponent who's heaving around that heavy red stance saber and is taking eons to get one hit in on you, you can hack away at him with your fast saber and get two or three hits in.

Yellow stance, also called medium style, is a good marriage between defense and offense. In this stance, you can swing your saber fairly quickly, but not as fast as the blue stance, and your hit takes more damage than that of the blue stance. The yellow stance is a good balance, and my personal favorite.

The heaviest stance is the red stance. With this saber, you can pretty much cut through anything. This is the Ginsu of stances. (Although, I haven't tried slicing a tomato with it yet.) Blue stance can try to defend against this heavy stance, but is not likely to come away from the fight unscathed. Red is very slow and it takes seconds between swings, so you are vulnerable to attacks from the front and back when your saber is in the air. However, you have the strongest attack and can cut someone's health by as much as 90% with just one well-placed hit.

So now you know what each stance is and it's strong and weak points. Let's talk about the special moves you can do with each stance.

Blue: Light Crouch Lunge

Now, this blue special, also known as the uppercut, is probably one of the best moves for counter-attacking the other specials. If someone misses you with a red or yellow special, you just take advantage of the downtime of their move, sneak in and slice up and through them with your uppercut. To perform this move, make sure you're in blue stance. Hit crouch, then move forward and attack. You pretty much need to do all of this at one time, but make sure you don't hit forward and then crouch, or you'll roll.

Yellow: Medium Finisher

The yellow special, or the medium finisher or Yellow DFA as it's often called, is a difficult move to perform and hit someone with. If you do hit someone with this move, you'll considerably injure the person, but you will not necessarily kill him or her with one hit (when your opponent is at full health). To do it, make sure you're in yellow stance, then, with your crosshair on your opponent, move towards him, then hit jump and attack at the exact same time. Again, this is a difficult move, so practice it a lot. Judging distance can be tricky.

Red: DFA

Death From Above (DFA), or the red special is called Death From Above because when one performs this move, they jump into the air, then come down heavy with their saber on top of your skull, more likely than not, killing you in one fell swoop. One of the quickest ways to kill your opponent is with a red special, but since it has a low learning curve, almost anyone can perform this move, and then they get all DFA happy, running around doing nothing but DFAs. Not a good idea to do nothing but DFAs, especially around someone who knows how to dodge a DFA and then use an uppercut on you. To perform this move, make sure you're in the red stance, then swing your saber, wait until both of your hands are on your hilt, then move forward slightly and hit jump.

Now you know the special moves for each stance. While these moves are good to know and use in fights, remember, sometimes less is more. In some cases, a special move may not be the best thing to use. Sometimes you just need to dodge and hit, and just whittle away at your opponent's health. There are many different fighting styles, don't become too dependent on one style, or just the special moves. You need to mix it up a bit and don't become too predictable.
