Lieutenant Ilfrey's two-plane bag of Sunday qualifies him as an ace, since he now has five planes to his credit. The public relations office of Ellington Field stated Monday that the qualifications used during World War 1 were five enemy planes credited to the pilot, and that the number had not been changed.

Lieutenant Ilfrey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Ilfrey, 3122 Robinhood. He is a native of Houston and graduated from Lamar High School in 1938, entering Texas A and M the following autumn, where he took flight instruction. He also attended the University of Houston. He had a private pilot's license and an instructor's rating when he enlisted in the air corps in may, 1941, as a flying cadet.He received his primary training at Ryan Field, California, and graduated from Luke Field, Arizona.

In July he was sent to England and he participated in the raid on Lille, France in October. From letters which have passed the censor, his mother believes there are possibly other victories in addition to the five listed in the story from Algiers.
