Final Exam

You'll need to download and install MP3 Audio Mixer before you run this exercise. You've got some time to try it out, so go ahead ... it's a great program.

The Raw File:  Here's the original Song. <warning: 3+Mb!>

Hint - load it in MP3 Audio Mixer, map out the verses, choruses, instrumental parts and such with Markers, then look at the whole song in ZOOM  mode.  Figure out where to make the cuts, leave room for blending, and start cutting.  Be patient - beat matching requires a quiet room and a tight zoom!

The Goal:  Get it to 3 minutes by cutting out the instrumental section.  Don't let your cuts be noticed.

Here's my final output file. <Also 3+Mb!>

Let's see how good you did.

Here's my final mix file.  <small>

Here are my steps:

  1. Listen to song.  Map out verses, choruses. (see v1, v2, bridge...)  Mark these sections using "Insert Marker".
  2. Realized that bridge 1 and bridge 2 are very similar (1:25 and 3:50), so I could overlay one to the other.
  3. Isolated Bridge 2 to end as one section.  Copied and pasted at roughly 1:25, lined up with bridge 1 and blended to original.
  4. Note: Normally I'd delete the tail end of the original song to eliminate 2 minutes of silence, but I kept it in for your benefit.
  5. This mix weighs in at 2:46.  Nice for a dance number, eh?

PS - Check out Matthew-Aaron Dusk's stuff on MP3.com - He's a great crooner!
