Step 4: Preview the Music
OK. Now that you’ve created your new masterpiece, it’s time to get it
into the dance studio. There are several options you can use:
- Take your laptop into the studio, fire up your mixer program and plug the
headphone jack from the laptop into the studio’s TAPE or AUX IN jacks. You
will need a “male mini-stereo to RCA Male” adapter from Radio Shack for
this. Or, you can use a cassette adapter like the ones they sell with
portable CD players. Actually, this is a great method, because you can fine
tune the piece right there in the studio with the instructor and dancers.
- Transfer the file to a portable MP3 Player (like a Rio). If you don’t
know what an MP3 player is, ask any teenager. Once it’s on the player, you
can plug it into the studio using the Radio Shack cable listed above.
- Burn a CD with the song(s) on them. See the next step for detailed
instructions on that.
If you have several versions of the song to try out, you can put them all on
your PC/player/CD and audition each of them.
You may do a lot of editing, so you may want to avoid burning CDs (especially
the use-once, throw away CD-R kind) until you’re sure the mix is perfect.
Bottom Line: Get it perfect, THEN make it permanent!
