What You Will Need
In order to record and produce music the digital way, you will need these
items:
 | A Personal Computer with a CD Burner, sound card and speakers or headphone
jacks |
A laptop computer is even better, because you can take it right into the
studio Some burners are external and can plug into the computer’s USB
port.
 | The Music (preferably on CD) |
Use digital music if you can – from CD or MP3 files You can “import”
music from analog sources using your soundcard and your stereo. Please don’t
use music you don’t own. Respect copyrights - musicians are people too!
 | A program which will transfer music from CD to your hard drive (a “ripper”) |
MusicMatch (from MP3.com) and WinAmp do this, to name a few. Your
computer or CD burner probably came with a program which does this.
 | Music mixing software |
I use MP3 Audio Mixer by Acoustica (http://www.acoustica.com)
 | Some blank CD-R discs |
These can be purchased at any electronics or department store.
 | A cassette recorder connected to a CD player |
So you can make cassette tapes.
