Introduction

Competition Season can be harrowing. From choreography to costumes to props, fund raising and music selection, there are many activities that must come together to create a strong performance for your team. With these activities, music quality often takes a back seat to other elements. Sadly, the tapes played at competitions often show the lack of emphasis placed on sound recording: Tape hiss, distortion, poorly executed cuts and abrupt endings are commonplace. Good music is ruined by improper handling. Often the quality of the music is so poor that it distracts attention from the stage performance, and that’s a shame.

The primary reason that music quality suffers is that it is hard to mix good music with home stereo equipment, and it’s expensive to have music professionally made.

But wait! Don’t lose hope, because there are new techniques for mixing music that are easy to learn, inexpensive, and produce incredible results.
