Welcome / Benvenuti

Early Photo, Vittorio Gigli

This site is dedicated to preserving the history of the many Italian families and their generations that have made Scotland their home.

Vittorio Gigli of Barga (Dumfries 1925)

Italians have been renowned for migrating to all corners of the earth, and this can be traced back as early as medieval times when the great maritime states such as Genoa, Pisa, Naples and Venice freely traded with the rest of Europe. Scots-Italians are proud of their heritage, and justifiably so, as their ancestors worked hard to settle in their new home. Today,  Scots-Italians can be found in all manner of professions, with many excelling in their field.

Scots-Italian Festival !!

Through an article featured in The Herald it was brought to our attention that since the Casa D'Italia in Glasgow closed its doors there has been no focal point for the large Scots-Italian contingent that reside here. The suggestion in the piece was for Scots-Italians to put on a one day festival to celebrate our culture and history. What do you think, should we have a Scots-Italian Festival ?

You can help !!

This site was launched in April 2001 and I'd like to treat it as a work in progress. I will seek to update it on a regular basis, and I would like to ask for your help in doing so. If you are Scots-Italian or have a Scots-Italian heritage then I'd like to hear from you.

Even if you are not, then get in touch and tell us what you think.

You can email us direct.  Otherwise feel free to post your comments or tales on our Scots-Italian Guestbook.
