KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

Often a lot of time is spent within applications, darting all over the menu lists performing commonly accessed functions. Many of these are able to be effected quickly and simply via your keyboard. For instance, try hitting the F1 key right now. This is effectively the same as going up to Help in the tool bar menu, then clicking on "Contents and Index", except it is considerably quicker.

Here's another one that I always find quite handy - if you have a modern keyboard with the Windows key between Ctrl and Alt, hold that down and press the D key. You will instantly clear your desktop by minimising all active windows to the task bar. This is surely quicker than going up and hitting four or five minimise buttons, don't you think?

The following keyboard shortcuts could make your life easier while you are on the computer:

IN WINDOWS:

Alt + F4 CLOSE active program Alt + Tab SWITCH between open programs
Ctrl + Home Go to BEGINNING
of the page
Ctrl + End Go to the END of the page
Ctrl + P PRINT document Ctrl + N NEW document
Ctrl + S SAVE document F1 Open HELP Window
Ctrl + Z UNDO Ctrl + F SEARCH for a file
F5 REFRESH a window Print Screen Copy WHOLE SCREEN to clipboard
Ctrl + O OPEN a publication Ctrl + A SELECT ALL highlighted items/text
Ctrl +
Alt +
Delete
If a programme stops responding, use this command to open a menu to show the programme not responding. From here you can END TASK to close the programme, then go back and reopen it again.
Ctrl + X or C
or V
Ctrl + C will COPY an item to the clipboard, by replicating it.
Ctrl + X will CUT an item from the page and onto the clipboard.
Both Cut items and Copied items can then be pasted elsewhere.
Ctrl + V will PASTE a copied or cut item into a selected workspace.
