SEARCH ENGINES

FINDING TOPICS ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB

Search engines enable you to locate topics of interest on the world wide web. They are free to use, and are usually funded by banner advertising.

There are hundreds of search engines on the web, some dealing only in special interest categories. On this page you will find a gateway to some of the main general topic search engines.

The easiest way to use these is to simply type in the topic that interests you, for example: Lieutenant General Montgomery and then press the search button provided. Remember that correct spelling is essential for a successful search.

The search will without doubt deliver to you hundreds of thousands, if not millions of web pages, most of them only distantly relevant to your topic of choice. However, in order to whittle down your search to a more specific group of helpful pages you will need to learn Boolean terminology for use in search engine searches.
