PEPITO
Pepito was rescued in November 2002 from a home near Ambato in the central Andes of Ecuador, where he was being kept on a lease and in a small cage.  We estimate that he was about four years old. He was brought to the Santa Martha Centro de Rescate where he has more than doubled in size in less than a year.

Pepito is almost ready for liberation, but we currently lack the funds to take him to a wild area and track him. We will need a GPS collar to track Pepito. GPS collars cost about $4000 and the satellite time for tracking about an additional $200 per week. We hope to find the money to release Pepito in the summer of 2004.

His enclosure at the Rescue Center covers one half acre (one quarter hectare) and includes a variety of trees and plants.
