Paris

Paris was a city I dreamed about all of my life. I had even studied French in high school, which proved to be semi-useful. This photo was taken before the Musee du Louvre and I.M.Pei's controversial glass pyramids.

The beautiful Venus di Milo is as beautiful as it is famous.

The Winged Victory of Samothrace is one of the most impressive sculptures of the Louvre.

After several hours in the Louvre, relaxing your feet in the Louvre fountains is a highly recommended therapy.

This is the Seine river on Rive Droite of Ile-de-la-Cite, the site of the original city and where the Notre Dame, the Saint-Chapelle, and the Conciergerie now sit.

Following the French Revolution, the Conciergerie became a prison for aristocrats, political dissenters, and other innocent victims. Over a two-year period, 2700 people were capriciously sentenced to death; many of them killed by the guillotine.

While Notre Dame is the better known, St. Chapelle is much more beautiful. Its lower level, with low, dark ceilings, was used by the commoners. Its upper level, as seen in this picture here, was used only by King Louis IX and the royal priests.
