I.

They found each other
Such a long time ago
They loved each other
And they never let go

And maybe they are soul mates
Drifting in the sky
Maybe they are soul mates
Too in love to die

She holds her
Tells her she cares
And she kisses her cheek
As she strokes her hair

She holds her
Tells her what she lacks
And she kisses her nose
As she strokes her back

Soul mates they may have been
But society said they were wrong
Soul mates they may have been
But the road they trod was long

II.

They found each other
Such a long time ago
They loved each other
And they never let go

And maybe they are soul mates
Drifting in the sky
Maybe they are soul mates
Too in love to die

He held his hand
Too afraid to speak
He looked at the man
Whom his heart did keep

He kissed his eyes
As the tears began to fall
He made truth out of lies
As they slid down the wall

Soul mates they may have been
But society said they were wrong
Soul mates they may have been
But the path they trod was long

III.

They found each other
Such a long time ago
They loved each other
And they never let go

They had a dream
A dream of freedom
A dream of a world without hate
A dream of love

They fought for their dream
And others joined in
They worked hard for their dream
And they knew they would win

They marched for their dream
They rallied, they spoke
But there was society's dream
Which their dream did choke

Heroes they may have been
But society said they were wrong
Heroes they may have been
But the road they trod was long

IV.

They found each other
Such a long time ago
They loved each other
And they never let go

She gave up
And left her love behind
She put her dream away
And then she crossed that line

She watched her leave
With a tear in her eye
She watched her leave
And she felt her heart die

Heroes they may have been
But society said they were wrong
Heroes they may have been
But the road they trod was long

V.

They found each other
Such a long time ago
They loved each other
And they never let go

He grew weary
And could take no more
He turned around
And they were no more

He watched him walk away
Tears running down his face
He watched him walk away
And his heart lost its place

Heroes they may have been
But society said they wre wrong
Heroes they may have been
But the path they trod was long

VI.

The found each other
Such a long time ago
They loved each other
And they never let go

They kept on fighting
Though their hearts were gone
They kept on fighting
And soon became one

Two broken hearts
Merged to make one
Two broken dreams
Soon became one

Heroes they were
Still society said they were wrong
Heroes they were
Yet the road ahead was still long

VII.

We found each other
Such a long time ago
We loved each other
And we never let go
We clung to a dream
For equal rights
We make the seam
For equal rights

We fight a dream
Society holds
We call on a dream
With all our souls

We may be heroes
We may be lovers
We may be normal people
And that is just what we see
Normal people all around

We are the people
The united people
United within a dream
United we fight
