Ashfield-Leichhardt
Training

Each member has the opportunity to undergo further training to develop new skills and to upgrade their existing ones.

The courses we run are relevant to our operational tasks.

Please note that there are pre-requsites for all of our courses as detailed in each course learners guide and training manual.

Unit Training

Our regular meeting and training night takes place on Wednesdays from 7:30pm at our Headquarters. The evening usually includes a briefing by our Controller or a senior officer. All the upcoming activities, training courses and assessments are discussed during the briefing as well as the tasks we carried out during the past month.

The Trainers often organise exercises, such as tarping the Headquarters' roof, so that we can practice everything that we have learned during our training courses and keep our skills up to date.

Occasionally a week-end training activity is held but this is usually in conjunction with a community event or specific training course.

Unit Training Nights also gives members the opportuity to raise questions that they may have in relation to their course, assessment or other activities.

Assessments

The assessment process within the NSW State Emergency Service is competency based. Courses are recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework. The length of assessments and the format of assessment vary for each course. Our local headquarters assists trainees by providing extra training if required and as our trainers have been in the SES for long periods of time, they are very well equipped to get you ready for assessment provided you commit to reading the materials supplied in the course. For more information, please contact our Training Co-ordinator.
